Throwing out some feelers here! A friend of mine is looking for a 7-piece kit to upgrade his current rig. He's planning on throwing down the cash on a new Tama Superstar Classic kit, like this one, but I always think there's something better out there in the used world that could be of a better quality/value.

His budget is $2000, and that includes covering shipping charges. He likes the 3-up, 2-down set up, I don't think he is too particular about the sizes of the drums. 8/10/12/14/16/22 is probably the most common, but let me hear what you have!

Brand and color/finish doesn't matter yet, I'm just trying to find some options to show him against what he might buy new at Sweetwater.

Anyone out there selling anything like this?

Thanks!

Luke

I see all kinds of tempting drumset listings on Facebook marketplace daily.
I bet he could scour the FB ads and find the ideal set for WAY less than $2000

I have a set I'd let go for $1400, a Yamaha Beech Custom in Blueberry 8x8/9x10/10x12/12x14/14x16/16x22 w/ 5.5x14 matching snare.

I recently saw a mint-used Tama Superstar Classic like you show above. It also had 900 series hardware and a huge set of Paiste PST7 cymbals for around $1300. While that was a good deal, there are better ones out there. Watch your local FB and CL posts for the next 1-2 months and one is sure to pop up. You should be able to land a high quality 6-8 piece set with hardware and cymbals in the $700-$1000 range. Here's a mint Tama Superstar classic kit with all the trimmings for $1500 in the Cleveland Region (Jackson, MI). Been up for 24 days...probably room to go lower.

Tama Superstar Classic 7 pc - 3 up - 2 down

As an example last year I saw a mint Yamaha Recording Custom 8 pc kit sit for 2 weeks on my local CL for $1800....and that included $600 in nearly brand new A's and K's, and $400 in DW 900 series hardware.....yeah the mint RC's were basically $100 each. If your friend was into Ludwig Vistalites this beautiful 9 piece kit with deeper snare along with Zildjians and hardware/cases was up in my area for $1500. Couldn't go wrong at that price.

Appreciate it, man! I was just browsing this morning and I found a Pearl maple Decade kit with brand new hardware and a complete set of cymbals for $1100. Killer deal. I told my friend about that set and he's looking into it. I'll be sure to pass along the Tama and Ludwig sets to him, too. Cheers!

I've got a swell Saphire Blue Premier Projector (Birch w/Beech re-rings) with 8/10/12/14/16/22 in decent condition, $800 shipped. NOT this kit, but see attachment for style and color.

Thanks for the offers, everyone! I have an update from my friend. He's looking for 12/13/14/16/18/22 + snare in terms of sizes. Open to any era or brand currently. Thanks again, all.
