In the past year I got into Paiste. I started out with a set of 2002’s, 22, 20, 18, 14 hh. For me, the 2002 ride was the weak link, the bell is killer but, the body sounded weak in that the definition is not prominent enough for me, great for low volume gigs though. I then got 17 and 19 Sig Full crashes followed by a 22” Sig Power Bell ride. The Power Bell ride is simply amazing with probably the best ping I’ve ever had in a ride cymbal. The bell is amazing too, really a great ride that responds dynamically. Shortly after those purchases I found a set of Paiste Twenty hi-hats at a reasonable price and grabbed those, again great cymbals reminiscent of an older set of Zildjian K / New Beats. I ended up selling a set of Sabian to finance my Paiste move and don’t regret it a bit.

In the end, most think Paiste are really expensive, I disagree. They are slightly pricier than others but used prices are competitive if you’re patient. Probably the only cymbals I would buy online and know exactly what I’ll be getting. Paiste’s website gives sound samples that are true to what you will find in person.

A little while back I picked up mildly edge-cracked 15” New Beats and 21” Sweet ride. I’m not a Z guy but the price was right and the repairs were simple with ye ole Dremel.
The ride is pretty great, and gets along swimmingly with an assortment of Paiste crashes. The hats are good, but a Paiste 2002 Heavy over the Z bottom is magic. Very happy!

Since them I’ve stumbled on a nice 18” Dimensions Medium Thin Crash and today brought home a beautiful 18” Sound Formula Thin Crash.

I also grabbed a 14” 3000 SE bottom off of eBay. $40 with a B8 Thin as a top. The B8 got me $20 off the aforementioned 18” SF.

Cool. Paiste crashes with a sweet ride. How much does yours weigh?

It’s at the practice space. I’ll weigh it next chance I get.
Funny thing - I had another 21”Sweet previously and didn’t bond with it at all. Could have been the cymbal, but it was probably just me.

Most recently picked up a 21” K Sweet Ride, a 20” K Custom Dark Ride -and 22” Small Stamp ride. Also got. 20” K Const Bounce Ride. Thinking of selling the K Sweet Ride and possibly the small stamp but we’ll see.
Two of the four above came from DFO members. :)

I'm going to make an educated guess that this is a very early preserial 14" 2002, possibly a prototype from around 1970/71.
It has the "E over trade" logo that was used on the Giant beats from the same era (see side by side comparison below).
It's about 1000g so either it's a marching cymbal (it has a large mounting hole) or it's a hi hat bottom.

I purchased yet another 1950s cymbal (details after it arrives.) I am thrilled, of course, but I had to wonder why I went on a recent spree. I decided to post this public service announcement here :) (I'm posting it for the sake of levity, so please don't read more into it that that.)

I've noticed! You are going wild!
I love it. I'm excited to hear what you like and don't like.
How many cymbal are you up to now on this current spree?

Just tallied up my purchases this month. I went a little overboard :) For someone who is barely playing out these days, and whose music has shifted to mainly classic pop and rock (the 65-70 year old variety), this probably doesn't make sense.

1950s Zildjian 22" Big Stamp Ride Cymbal 2492 grams
Zildjian IAK 20” Jazz Ride 2064 grams
1950s A Avedis Zildjian Small Stamp 20" Ride Cymbal 2525g
21" Zildjian 60's/50's ride
19" Dream Bliss crash/ride 1495 grams
Avedis Zildjian 18” cymbal vintage thin stamp crash/ride 1360 grams
Vintage Avedis A Zildjian 14" Hi Hat Cymbals 980/1530 grams
A. Zildjian & Cie "Vintage" 14" hats
22" Dream Bliss ride 2419 grams
18" Dream Bliss crash/ride 1405 grams
14" Dream Contact hats 796/991 grams
14" Zildjian 1950's Small Stamp hi hats 693/824 grams

Oh yeah, and one of these:
