I placed an order for a standard P3 smooth white head at the end of July. This is the reso head for the Ludwig restoration kit I was working on. I wanted this head for the sound and the looks so I could add a nice Ludwig logo to it (and clean off the giant remo logo for a nice clean look)
It was out of stock at Sweetwater so they special ordered one.

Originally they said 2-3 weeks.
I checked in at the end of August and they said Remo was backed up due to covid and it would be another 2-3 weeks.
I just talked to them today and they don't show an order acknowledgement from remo and they are guessing about the end of September.

Has anyone heard what is going on at REMO?

While I like the look of the smooth white head to finish the kit, I would also like to get it done and playable (the old head sounds like :pukeright:) If it is much longer I'm not opposed to going with an Evans EQ4 Calftone. It's a little off white, but that could be a good thing - AND IT'S IN STOCK.

The rest of the heads on the kit are already Evans, but they don't have a smooth white head like I'm looking for to finish the kit. That's why I'm looking for the remo.

FYI, some manufacturers are way behind on orders due to plant closures because of covid. I would be more concerned about SW not having an acknowledgment from Remo at this point.

It was normal for orders from Remo to take at least 4 to 6 weeks. Most people don't know this, even those that work for music stores, that Remo doesn't warehouse items hoping that someone will order them. That means that even for best sellers like 14" coated ambassadors, they're not sitting there on the shelves. It's entirely possible that whoever has been giving you the estimates doesn't know this and is just going by what other manufacturers do.
Of course this was a few years ago while Remo Belli was still around. Maybe things have changed.

Just out of curiosity, how come you didn't order the PS3 that comes with the Ludwig logo on it? Are you going for a different style logo?

I first started in the music instrument biz in 1986. Remo has always been that way. Orders take forever. That's why they have wholesale distributors -- they take those huge ups and downs out of delivery. But most major retails go direct to get an edge on what are razor thin margins with drum-heads. Try another retailer. You may pay more, but they might have it in stock, or be able to get it from a distributor very quickly.

That's what I wanted but I was told that they were near impossible to get. Also I didn't want the mic hole in it either and most of them were coming with the hole.

When I looked NOBODY had one. Sweetwater, Lone Star, gc, and a few others I don't readily remember.
I think one of them had one, but it had the hole in it and I wanted it solid.
I even posted in the wanted marketplace section here hoping someone would have a line on one. No dice.

One time I called REMO looking for a small part for some ancient roto-toms. They didn't have the part because they had not made that model for 30 years. So instead, they sent me a brand new set of roto-toms w/ stand (worth about $250) for free. I love REMO.

Ah, that's nice! I tried to get parts for my Legero kit that may have been made using Reynolds Wrap. I called Remo and they told me sorry, no parts available.

My Mastertouch kit had similar hardware issues. I think there was a thread from a few years back where someone called Remo drum hardware "pot metal."

I LOVE Remo drums, those Acousticon shells are outstanding and if you haven't spent quality time with them, you're missing out. In the late 1990s, I had one of those 13x3 Guitar Center-special $99 Remo Mastertouch or Masteredge piccolo snares. With a head swap and snare wire change, it was a terrific main snare.

I was seriously considering figuring out a way to mount Yamaha hardware on Remo shells. Don't think the hole spacing will line up, but man, that would be a fantastic combo.

Would also love to own a Gold Crown kit, what a beautiful sounding set. But after my Legero and Mastertouch experiences...ehhh, it's really hard for me to jump at it.

See if you can find a Remo P3 Fiberskyn ambassador for the resonant side. Used one to replace a smooth white P3 on my Yamaha PHX bass and the added low-end really blew my mind.

That's about what the Evans EQ4 Calftone is like. However I think the Calftone is a bit warmer than the remo. I have the EQ4 Calftone on the batter side already so I know what it is like. Both the Fiberskins and the Calftone are off white. I want that tone but with the look of a pure white head.

I love Sweetwater, but they almost always seem to have what I need on back order or don't carry it at all. I always check them first, but invariably wind up getting what I need from either bad person, Amazon or Sam Ash. Sweetwater is especially challenged when it comes to Remo heads ... bad person always seems to have what I need in stock. Go figure.

Bunny. why do you want a Powerstroke on the front? Don't you want to be heard? : )

If you need a 22" or 24" Drum Center of Portsmouth has them. That's where I got mine a little over a year ago.

Somebody might have posted this already, but did you try getting your Remo from another online seller? Maybe SW is the weak link and don’t have what you want in stock, not Remo.

I know Amazon is the evil giant taking over the world, but LOOKEE HERE! They do have them sitting in warehouse probably in Nevada, just waiting for a shopper like you.

THANKS FOR THE AMAZON TIP!!!!!!!

I wasn't going to check it out as you link was for a 20" and I needed a 24". But I checked it out to see if they had other sizes by chance AND THEY HAD A 24"!!!
I never thought about drumheads through them. I usually have to buy my sticks there as no one usually carries what I like.

Best part of Amazon - I have reward points. THE HEAD/SHIPPING IS COSTING ME $0!

ORDERED AND ON THE WAY!!!

Ask Jake Tillman at Sweetwater to contact someone at REMO.

A word of warning on the calftone heads. The Logo is large and very hard to remove. I've had reasonably good luck getting the logo (mostly) off of Fiberskyn bass heads but the same techniques (acetone) didn't even faze the calftone logo. Nice head otherwise but something to be aware of. Maybe some else has figured out how to get it off. If so please share it.

That's kind of what I thought. That's why I was looking for a smooth white (remo) head for the front. That way I could remove the giant logo and leave room for the Ludwig logo.
I have a calftone on the batter side for the sound. No one but me will see the logo and I don't have to worry about removing it.

I did get it off but it involved steel wool, sandpaper, and touch-up paint and even then I had to put another logo over top of it to hide the resulting mess.

There is a seller on ebay who sells smooth white un-logoed bass heads for dirt cheap. I have used a few as resos with good results. They undoubtedly come from China and remind me of the old Attack heads which in turn remind me of Ludwig heads as far as the collar design. You might consider one of those as a stop gap temporary solution. No muffling on them ( I use a felt strip). To me they seem to work fine.
