I presently find myself on a Hammond organ, and Jon Lord learning venture. Jon Lord reveals in this video how he got his unique Hammond sound with Deep Purple. I was surprised to find this out. So, I am sure others here would appreciate learning about this... Hammond players out there?

Very interesting - thanks for posting. What an incredible musician he was.

When Jon refers to a "straight speaker," what he means is a speaker that doesn't have the rotating Leslie effect. However, it's hardly fair to say it means uncolored. That sound is a result of an overdriven Marshall amp (which is easy to do - the Hammond preamp out is much hotter than any guitar!)
Here's the classic Purple Mk II back in the day. Jon's amp isn't visible but his speakers are the Marshall cabs in the back line with the horn tweeters.

I always loved that Hammond sound. It was an instrument that seemed like it was made for rock.I know there are other genras where it sounds great, but John Lord ,took it to a different level.
