Update! A local drummer let me try his 20” big beat! I loved it. Very versatile. Great crash! So I bought me a used one. Also found a 24” giant beat, that I bought. I had been wanting one regardless of this country gig, so it’s win either way. Now for hats! I’m thinking 16” big beats or giants beats. Leaning more towards the big beats. Has anyone played either of them and can comment? I feel like the big beats would do a better job of not stepping on vocals.

I play Classic Country and gig fairly often. I use an 18" thin 602 crash,..16" Medium 602 crash, and a 20" 602 Medium Ride with 14" Sound Formula Hats. The 602 Hats are just too soft sounding........

I’m a paiste man. I have lots of 2002s. But have recently started playing country. 70s outlaw style, some Americana and a lil folk. The 2002s are a lil over the top. What are some quieter, more blended into the mix, paiste’s?
Hit them lighter.

I was thinking about the Sig dark energy or big beats. I want a washy ride. And soft, buttery hats. (Subjective terms, I know. )
Soft Buttery hats = 15” 602 Sound Edge Hats

Nick Mason played these for his Floyd Albums

Traditionals line, thin crashes. Go for larger sizes to offset their lower volume. Recently bought a 17” and love it.

18” and 20” thin crashes would Fit the bill. Plenty of video samples with good sound out there….. their medium rides are nice too.

The 15/16 Big Beat hats were discussed in another thread as being not super cutting and (relatively) softer for hats. These Sabians have also made their way onto my radar, and as a funny, I am I pretty sure that counting the Paistes first these are listed least to most bright.
