Has anybody had experience with both Beato Pro 1 and Protection Racket AAA cases?

Looking for a soft case for a new snare drum and tossing up between these two options.

I'm getting a set of Ahead Armor bags for the rest of my kit, but want something a bit more protective for my snare, since it will get significantly more use (backline gigs etc).

AAA - More protective but I don't like the direction of the handle on the snare drum case, which is less ergonomic for carrying long distances. Some people have reported issues with the inner shell cracking over time?

Beato - Not as protective, but lighter (not sure how much?). The handle is in the right direction and the shoulder strap will also come in handy. Some people have said these bags can be too tight?

I don't really care about waterproofing other than carrying through light rain occasionally.

Any thoughts or recommendations between these two cases?

I own both. IMO there is nothing better then a Beato Pro I in the soft case market. I have 30 year old Beato Bags that look and function as new. Fred is a So Cal guy and has been very active in the industry for years. He's also a VERY nice human.

They aren't too tight if you call and tell him what drum you are bagging up and if it has a RIMMS type mount. Non of my 15+ snare bags are too tight for a wide variety of throw offs and makes and models of snare.

Call him and talk through what you want. He will make almost anything and his "phone" prices typically are better then the online price.

I only owned aaa and I think its hard to beat.

Especially the rigid structure, yet soft insides, and their waterproof (as it rains here most of the time).

Here is an example of the cymbal case:

The walls are that thick yes, drop a drum in the case from one story or a set if stairs, and nothing will happen, I have found out more then once.

I do understand beato is more affordable in the us than here in europe and offer custom orders if you really need something weird.

Agreed 100%. I had a few Beato Pro bags many years ago, and I liked them just fine until we started really gigging heavy in the late 90's, and I moved to hard caases.

When I bought my early 2ks Broadkaster kit, (in 2020) it came with a full set of Protection Racket cases. I was totally impressed, really nice stuff. Then, when I picked up another kit, one of the (mis-matched) cases was a brandy-new Beato Pro I. I immediately called Fred and had a set made for my newest USA Custom bop. Call Fred. He'll make sure you get exactly what you want, you won't be sorry.

Thanks for the feedback. I can get an AAA case for a little cheaper than the Beato where I am.

However I’m tempted to go with Beato given the sub-optimal AAA handle, and the crazy amount of love Beato cases get around here.

I have both and definitely prefer the PR AAA cases in overall design for transporting drums.

I personally never had issues with the handles (there are 3 on each case).

Also, for those who don't know this.

The AAA series (All Accidents Avoided) is completely different than their regular bags, as they are a case with soft outer and inner material.

I have Drum Seeker cases and protection racket cases for a few drum kits. These days, I use Barton cases. They are the most cost effective, and the padding and features is pretty much on par with the others. I bought a set for one of my kits, and I wouldn't hesitate to get Barton cases for any of my sets.

Have had both. Beato are best for me. Had two situations where they got flooded and the drums stay dry. I the stiffness makes it easy to drop the drum into. I use my floor tom Beato case as a table for my in ears amp, wallet, etc.

I've used Beato, Protection Racket (not the AAA), Ahead Armor, Drum Seeker, Tuxedo, Galaxy, and Phoenix Tuffcase.

Of those, nothing compares to Beato. Everything else feels like a "cover", where the Beato feels like a "soft case"
I'm slowly moving all of my cases to Beato. Being able to choose the color on the strap is the icing on the cake for me.

My Pearl Crystalbeat bass drum rolled out of my truck bed onto the concrete in my Beato Pro 1 bag. Drum was fine. So I’ve never considered any other bags. Plus they are waterproof as opposed to water resistant.

First thing I did when my new kit was built; I ordered the Beatos. Well worth it.

Why's that?
Apologies, I thought these were the standard Gator bags. These are their new Icon line. I still wouldn't choose them over the ones I listed, but they're definitely better than the original Gator line.

It'll be interesting to see what the reviews of these are once people start using them. I'm worried about the handles and the zippers on them (always weak spots on Gator stuff), but like the rubberized bottom.

Beato Pro1 all day long. I thought the PR AAA was the shiznit and bought a bass drum bag/case and it´s HEAVY. It´s more a case than a bag. Sold it within a month.

Stay away frum DrumSeeker, the handles are way to long so if you are carrying a bass drum you have to keep your arms way up, otherwise you´ll be dragging it across the ground. Ahead are nice soft bags but nothing beats Beato.
