Wow I had no idea they were that valuable

When Ludwig re introduced the BB in 77,the shells were brass. At some point there after, they were made from bronze, and then back to brass. In John Aldridges "Guide to Vintage Drums",he says Bill Ludwig told him there was no difference in sound between brass and bronze.

A friend of mine has a 70's 6.5" engraved BB sitting in its original velvet lined hard case which is all sitting within its original Ludwig shipping carton  .

I'm really hoping to get my hands on that drum someday  .

I sold a 5x14 blue olive couple years ago on ebay for 1250, somebody used buyitnow. I thought that was a lot.. They are good drums, mine was bronze. Sounded darker then the brass ones. Live it kind of got lost in the band so off it went. These days i use one that's 10 years old or so. I have a Aquarian satin finish on it becouse its pretty bright with an ambassador, go figure :) I really like the 5x14 bb's for recording. The 6.5x14 are nice also but sound too classic rock for my taste.

I had that exact drum! Paid $200 bucks for it around 2001. Forget what I sold it for... Certainly not that much!

My friend has the same drum except his is engraved. It's been played and it's not mint but he has owned it since 1983 and it sounds awesome!

I have an unigraved 5 inch SS. Played it for ever and sounds great. I got it NOS from the old Fort Wayne Percussion Center in the mid 80s.

I've got a bronze 6.5x14. Due to it's flaking lacquer the drum was much cheaper than those on eBay. I would still like to own a blue/olive 6.5 brass version, but not at these prices! For now I can just use my brass 5".

Considering it was in close proximity to a JHB poster at some point in tiime...I wonder how much I could get for mine if I triesd to unload it...

These things are super hot in Japan right now, and I would bet both of those drums went there. I've sold a few in the last few months and they haven't even made it to the website, they went straight to Japanese customers on a waiting list. However, they have to be in excellent condition, must have the pointy B/O badge, and they must be the Supraphonic, NOT Supersensitive version. Also, strangely enough, the buyers in Japan don't want the engraved versions, and won't pay nearly as much for them.

If anyone has an un-engraved, pointy B/O Black Beauty Supraphonic in excellent condition, 5x14 or 6.5x14, and wants to unload it for big bucks, let me know!

Here's a couple of nice ones I sold last week:

wow... mine is NOS... after I got it I sold the used one I had for $400+ B)

Yea, I kept an eye on that. I can't believe it went for that much...Good for the seller but, bad for everyone else that might be looking for one. Now everyone is going to think that that's what the market should be for those. YIKES!
