Boom VS Straight

Straight flat base stands for me. I want the lightest hardware available. Since my sets are four piece and only have two or three cymbals, positioning is pretty simple.

Being an old school curmudgeon, I'm rather ambivalent toward the "Martian attack on a New Jersey oil refinery" look that comes with large sets using double braced boom stands supporting large numbers of crash cymbals.

I use right side crashes just beyond the floor tom. Truth is, I could use straight stands with them, but for the sake of convenience, I’ve always bought booms. That way I can use any stand at any time anywhere on the kit. The booms fold into the stand if I don’t need them anyway, so why not have the extra versatility?
