So I have given a lot of thought to my musical journey and have hooked up with a group of people to start a Christian rock band. We will begin with covers and hope to write our own material.

For anyone who may listen to Christian rock we are going to do some Third Day, Jeremy Camp, Casting Crowns, Kutless, Crowder, etc.

I've played in a band with the bass player, and the lead guitarist is my wife's cousin. We added a keyboard player/vocalist today, and are looking for one more guitar player/vocalist.

I'm looking forward to this journey. I began with a gospel group and won some awards with it when I was a teen. I guess you can say I'm getting back to my roots with this band.

That's cool. I've played in several worship bands at churches but never written original material in that field.

Very cool!
Played churches, street corners, prisons and biker rallies!
Lots of covers and originals!
Congrats!

That is great! Love Third Day, too bad that they are moving on to different projects. I've been loving the Hillsong music for a while now...That is what I would call an ideal gig. What follower wouldn't want to lay down the beats and worship? That is too cool.

Sweet! Lot's of potential for great music in that arena. However a lot of christian bands play watered down, boring, un-fun music (which strikes me as very odd) Don't be one of those! :)

Good. for you, enjoy the journey. Very rewarding and satisfying music. At the end of a show I feel exhausted, but somehow I feel like I could keep playing for hours. I,ve given up being insulted by rude, selfish club owners, and now play for whats really important.

Yeah! What HE said!!!! ^^^

Unfortunately, a lot of that type of music is what sells. :sad10:

Christian Rock. P&W. Been there ~ done that. Hope you're not in it for the $. I'm really not trying to sound jaded. If this is what floats your boat, go for it. I've just had real bad experiences with too many so-called Christians who turned out to be the farthest thing from that.

This is true too. It has been a trend lately of many so-called "Christian" music artists admitting that they either never were Christians, or no longer believe in it.

Good for you. I play guitar for our Church band and also play weekly at the jail. Wish you the best !!!

WOW...a topic I do not discuss much but was totally into this scene in the 80's...
Played with the bass player from Baron Cross...White Heart was big and excellent
players who patterned themselves after TOTO back then...Stryper was was red
hot at this time and controversial...leather tight pants were just stupid...
Tough gig however..always controversial...always! No matter what you played
or how well, the church had issues...and looking back for good reasons...

Good luck...when I moved to TN, I hired some guys from craigslist to help me move...
hard rock Christian band to make money...they were excellent...got into music talk
fast (like attracts like) and lead singer walks to car hands me their CD...really solid
stuff! Respect...music was as good as any hard rock band and they are moving furniture
to make cash...

I love all those bands you mentioned and actually went to high school with Brad from Third Day, although he left several years ago. Their early albums are some of my favorites. My 7 years in a worship band were great fun. Glad to hear you found some good people. Enjoy it!

Stryper just released an new album this month and it's getting rave reviews from the mainstream press. They brought on a new bass player, Perry Richardson formerly of Firehouse. Played their first show with the new lineup in Milan a day or two ago.

Same here. I remember one triple bill concert I played back in the 80's opening for The Rez Band. To this day, still the absolute loudest kick drum I've ever heard in a live mix. I also recall when Stryper were at their peak and used to throw little pocket Bibles into the crowd.

Try some Believable Picnic for some inspiration. Then perhaps take in some PFR while you are at it. But I must say, the self-titled Believable Picnic album is about as good as it gets for harder stuff, yet still within the neighborhood of melodic pop.

Thanks everyone, and thanks for the suggestions of new bands to check out.

Congrats on the Christian rock band. I think it's remarkable how many of us here, myself included, seem to have experience in the genre. I was in a band from 1998-2002 that was 1/2 originals and covers. We covered bands with harder styles like Disciple and Thousand Foot Crutch, and our originals tried to mimic that but most ended up with more of a U2 flavor, lol. It was one of my favorite times of drumming, and meant something special to me. We once got to open for Disciple back when it was just Kevin, Brad, and Tim in the band. They had recently released their "By God" album, which was getting them a lot of radio play. It was fun getting to see their new to them HUGE tour bus that currently had absolutely no seating in it. It was plain white and absolutely hollow except for the driver seat and a bunch of blankets and pillows for them to ride on, and they were so proud of it. That night was really one of the highlights of my drum playing because those guys were so real, yet so talented and on their way to success. I got to run into Kevin years later at a show they were doing and I brought up that event and how much it meant to me at the time. He had difficulty remembering all the details but said it really made his day to hear that and he gave me a big hug. lol
Enjoy your journey!
