I think the monitor mixes must have been pretty bad as well. The sound seemed to me like it got a bit better towards the end of the night. My top 40 country band covers a lot of this type of stuff and I don't mind it at all. It's fun to play, people love to dance to it and my schedule is full with gigs. It sure beats playing classic rock to a half empty room a few times a month. I find some of the drum parts fun to reproduce live and I mix in some electronics to get some of the effects.

BTW, the drummer that played with little big town was playing a Gretsch set. Brad Paisley is a heck of a guitar player but it's a real shame that you could'nt hear him at all during his first time out there. I am also pretty impressed with Keith Urban's guitar playing.

I'm not a Bruno Mars fan, but I think that guy is the real deal.

the thing that annoys me about country is - how is anyone supposed to have their own sound, when: A) they are all using studio musicians, and B) hardly anyone writes their own stuff.Didn't Billy Ray Cyrus take a lot of flak years ago cause he used HIS OWN BAND on some albums?

All popular music tends to have a generic element to it, but that studio musician not true just takes the cake for me.

I may be a little behind on this, but when did Rich Redmond switch from Sonor to DW?

I think in 2011, if I remember correctly. Killer player with a larger than life personality. My wife and I met him in Nashville a couple years ago, and spend the next 20 minutes or so talking drums, food, life, introduced us to his wife. He didn't know me from Adam, but took the time to engage in a real conversation. Cool guy.

Which leads me to the comments about country music. I can understand the purists out there lamenting on the state of the music today and how it's crap. I can respect their opinions. I play country, and like it quite alot. I like the money that comes with it too, but then again, I guess that reinforces the argument that it's a rather 'shallow' genre today.

I will say though, that no other genre I can think of caters more to their fans. Ticket prices are average, meet and greet passes available to fan-club members, free shows at Fan Fest. Whether it's all a facade or not, it certainly appeals to the masses and it comes off as genuine. The business side of it is a slimy as any other genre, at least on this side of the border. That's a whole other topic.

Trey- That was funny. You owe me a new keyboard as mine now has Snapple all over it.
Old K Ride- Have fun seeing Dwight, I bet he kills it live.

As someone who grew up listening to Paul Leim, Eddie Bayers, Larrie Londin, and , of course, Tommy Wells (among others) tear it up on the country charts, I can barely relate to modern country. It all started, I think, when Mutt produced Shania's 1st huge album. The slide towards huge, cotton candy, bourbon-soaked fluff was swift and thorough.

Kind of makes you wonder what in the name of Jesus Christ and the twelve apositiles ....Mutt Lang was thinking. He went out for hamburger, when he had filet mignon at home.

She's still stunning...and she can still sing.

Was it just me or did almost every singer sound flat?
I thought the same thing, especially George Strait. I thought he sounded terrible ... and I like George Strait.
Exactly...my wife noticed it and she isn't a musician. Bad night.

For every beautiful woman, there is a guy somewhere who's tired of her s**t, and vice versa. Sad but true.

Well, I like what you did there. Remnds me of my classic rock days. And, I have seen those in a few country bars. However, once you played a country gig in a university town, you'll wonder why you didn't start earlier. They ain't all pretty, but some will make your jaw drop.

just got a text that one of my bands is opening for Florida Georgia Line on Wednesday, I've yet to check them out but I hear they played this event.

Geez, I missed the show last night and just now was going on youtube to see some of it and they are being removed for copywrite violations as fast as I can click on them. Maybe I'm not really missing anything . . .

Thanks (and to brianb) for the update on Rich. And I agree about Rich being a great guy. I met him a couple of times here in Houston and he was always more than willing to talk about pretty much anything. As you say, cool guy.

As some have mentioned before the biggest problem with the sound is that you have TV people mixing live music. You'd think they'd get it after a while but I'm sure there's politics involved with bringing in outsiders to mix your primetime TV show. As to music, there's great players and even some great singers out right now. The big problem is what sells is what they are going to sing and what the songwriters are going to write.

Of the new crop I like Miranda's singing and songs. I like Carrie's singing but not so much her songs. Paisley is an awesome guitarist but I can't stand his songs, but again they sale.
