I know this is perhaps a builder's forum question, but is there any currently available champagne sparkle wrap that very closely resembles the wrap on vintage drums? All of the stuff I've seen looks like there is too much silver, or no genuine copper flakes.

I haven't seen it but Jammin Sam has a new JS Sparkle in Champagne now. Call for a sample, the JS Sparkles line looks great.

I have the Bermuda sand swatch from Precision and it does have the copper and matches my vintage champagne . Get a sample from Precision to see if you like it . I am sure the JS stuff is the same as they are from Delmar .

The JS Sparkles are made by Delmar but unique to Jammin Sam. They have plastic hex jewels, a white substrate and a tinted upper.

The 'go-to' for vintage sparkle wrap (IMHO) would be Delmar. That is the manufacturer of the best vintage wraps. There are a number of drum building suppliers who sell this. Source them out online and ask for samples. I've used Delmar wraps, and for applying it to your drum shell the best adhesive I've found is 3M 30-NF contact adhesive. About $35.00 per qt.

Thanks for all of the answers.

It had been so long since I looked at Bermuda Sand that I didn't realize there was a "Modern" and, ummm, a reissue? Anyway the "non-modern" Bermuda Sand looks, at least in some of the pictures I've seen, to be very close to the vintage stuff from Delmar. I wonder if they use copper sparkles. I guess it doesn't matter in the long run.

I looked at the JS Champagne; nice, but I prefer a closer match to vintage.

If the Bermuda Sand offered by Precision is the real deal, I'm sure it will be expensive.

It is, and has always been the most expensive sparkle in the line. That was before the glass glitters tho. I haven't looked lately.

OK, I found this post by idrumforfun from March, 2015:

"I was checking out wraps from Precision Drum last week and noticed that "Bermuda Sand" is available again. It had shown as "discontinued" for a long time, being replaced by Modern Bermuda Sand, which I was never crazy about. I emailed Gary to find out about the Bermuda Sand. Here's what he said; '"....yes, the Bermuda Sand is the original. It's very high priced because it's made with real copper and silver flakes"'. I haven't inquired about the cost!
Mark"

This was a custom Hipgig in Bermuda Sand that I built around 1999 with Precision parts (Tama snare).

I know the picture is poor quality but if it helps in any way....

Current Bermuda Sand by Delmar and sold by drummaker.com or precision drum are the closest we have to original Champagne Sparkle Wraps.

It is a beautiful wrap in it's own right, and has the genuine copper flakes. They say it's made the same as it's always been made.

It is slightly more pink than the original wraps. I would not recommend using it to match a drum to an existing vintage Champagne Sparkle kit. You would be disappointed. However, rewrapping an entire kit works nicely.

Here's a Camco kit I did using Bermuda Sand from drummaker.com

That is definitely more pink than the stuff I have from Precision . Could be the lighting too as it is pretty hard to photograph . Great Camco set btw !!!!!!

Anyone have a picture of the current Bermuda Sand?
I would like to check it out closer.
I currently have a thread going also on Champagne if you want to send there for reference.

The odd thing here is that back when the original Bermuda Sand was the only thing available the general complaint was that it didn't really match original Champagne Sparkle very well but, as the only thing available that was even close, would have to do.

As I recall about 10 years ago Gretsch had Delmar (or someone) whip up a new style champagne that was more like the vintage stuff which was hailed by many but that wrap was exclusive to them so you could only buy it on Gretsch drums. Thereafter at least a couple more versions came out including the modern Bermuda sand (and with that the, apparently temporary, discontinuation of the original Bermuda sand). The copper sparkle that Gretsch used on their Catalina line is yet another variation.

While I like the color (one of the classier sparkles ever done) I've never owned any drums in that finish so I've never paid real close attention to the various different versions. I just recall lots of posts on here (and the old DCI forum) bemoaning the fact that Bermuda sand was the only thing available but not really a great match to vintage versions of that color. That was the only wrap of this type available for at least 25 years though so there are doubtless a lot of drums wearing it and that would infer that there would be a decent market for it and a good reason for Precision to bring it back.

Also on vintage drums champagne varied from drum manufacturer to drum manufacturer and sometimes from run to run . Plus now it has aged some faded to lighter or more gold and some darkened so matching a vintage drum to a new rewrap is always going to be hard . Not just with champagne sparkle but most wraps .

It's the exact same stuff as Precision.
