Do we really need a new thread for every DWorld refugee?

Wouldn't ONE Welcome to DFO thread be enough? Where people could introduce themselves? That's all I'm saying. Let's not make things more dramatic than they need to be.

I agree that might be more efficient, but I am delighted when someone takes it upon themselves and creates a thread—typically their first—with the sole purpose of saying hello.

I looked for a pinned “introduce yourself” thread (D-World had one) but couldn’t find anything specifically for that purpose. Perhaps you could start one.

What does that mean - you're "skeptical?" Skeptical of what?

Don't worry. We're not here to take over your turf.

I just figured it would be nice to introduce myself. Never imagined it would be problematic.
Welcome aboard! Enjoy

I never introduced myself when I joined DFO several months ago (didn’t know it was a thing people did) and now this glut of intros has had me feeling like like I missed out on an opportunity haha. So now it’s going here:

I’m Mike, I like drums. Especially Tama and Yamaha drums. I’ve lived in Illinois, Texas, and Ontario (current and final home). Not sure why I joined DFO vs other forums, but I like it a lot here. People are very nice.
Welcome aboard!

Even worse, your neighborhood bar is falling on tough times - it got sold to a new owner who's never there, a lot of the old staff left, and half the time, you show up when it should be open and it's locked up and the lights are out. So you head across the street to another bar with a similar clientele, a similar range of beers on tap, a good playlist on the jukebox. It feels very similar to the old bar, but there's differences. (A whole lot more brightly lit, for one.)

When your old place is open, you head in there, check out what's going on, check in with the staff who are left, and maybe catch a beer and a couple of rounds of pool on the same table you've been playing on since 2009. A familiar face walks in. It feels like old times, for a minute. You leave, but you check in at your new place, because there's different people there and different conversations, and a lively darts game always seems to be going on. It's got a different feel, but a good, familiar feel. Like Joe Pesci says at the end of Lethal Weapon 4, "You're not better friends than Froggy, you're just different."

Sometimes you don't even go to the old place, just straight to the new place. And the whole experience has you wondering, at least a little, if you should maybe just quit going out for a while and drink at home. But this is an important social ritual for you, and so you check in at least a few times a week. At least if the old place does close down, there's still a place where you can find your kind of people to hang out with.
Ever seen differences of opinion or even fights in bars? Certain people here will shout you down if they don't agree with a stated opinion. It's always the usual suspects. Just sayin'

Welcome back!
Thank you for having me back. Glad to be here.

No disrespect to DW and its members, but I think I'm gonna make this my new drum forum. I only have time for one drum forum, and this will be it.

DW is bleeding its best members and they're all coming here. The discussions here are a bit more "spirited" and I actually like that. Just in this one thread, some of the comments in DW would have gotten a member warned or banned. I'm tired of walking on egg shells.

This forum is a like a roadhouse bar? <checks the forum rules>

Dang. No swear words allowed. Not much of a "bar". But...I've overheard eloquence used to incite a bar brawl before (note to mods: I stayed on my throne keeping the beat; hat tip to Chris Layton) and there was never a plausible resolution, just someone unconscious on the floor.

Oh c'mon I understand Mystic's trepidation-no need to beat up on him for thinking out loud. I came here because DW became unusable months ago before Oooops (also many long time members banned in recent year or so). Some odd dynamics been going on so didn't feel welcomed or at ease to post anything. I'm retired so I need a social outlet beside Fakebook an encyclopedia of misinformation and nonsense LOL. I've never ever looked at other drum forums in 18 years on DW because I made so many friends and learned a lot-which I now see I can do same here. I look for folks that I have things in common-drums being one of them. I can't speak for other DW members who've joined but appears many members here have dual citizenship on both for awhile .I guess I do too- but at this point I have no desire to return because a change in management is the most polite way I can say it. I'm not one to speak ill of anyone I like to give people grace but tbh it's one person I have an issue that just raises my ire. My Bad. I don't expect forum dynamics to be much different here than any other I've joined but I'm open to be surprised LOL. Regards Art-not like you hang on the wall.

Beat up is a bit drastic , I think I can speak for those who did state their opinion , that they wanted to make sure any newcomers didn’t think we were all jerks , That’s all .

Yeah poor word choice, and I understand members wanting to welcome us newcomers-I'm not disparaging that-grateful! Just like to work on my civility skills which hasn't come natural to me LOL.

civility ?? . But you are dealing with a guy who seems to have pretty much the exact personality and civility as this guy :

I'm a little skeptical in that DFO suddenly becomes the "new home" only now that their forum has gone to crap.
Skeptical of what? I used DW for a long time, but didn't need to be on multiple forums. A few months ago, things changed significantly in the moderating of DW, it became very difficult to get the site to load, and I finally gave up. Because I find drum forums often enjoyable and informative, I switched to this one, which I actually like better anyway.

I've seen it, but I don't seem to experience it very often. So I'm not particularly concerned. I'll just be over here, talkin' 'bout drums.

A new member is a new member... I personally don't care if they were on other forums or not. I made a new thread to introduce myself when I joined last year, and I try to say hi to any others I see who create one as well.
