Hi there all, what would be a good pair of sticks to get my 5 year old for Christmas? I am considering the Vic Firth Kidsticks, but never had any experience with them.

Something like this would be cool
Vhffoso Rechargeable 15 Color Changing LED Light Up Drum Sticks With Storage Bag, Glow In The Dark Drumsticks, Drummer Gifts Glow Plastic Drum Sticks for Adults,Personalized Drum Sticks(2pcs/Pack) https://a.co/d/ipXJhxT

The other things I forget to mention is that, the Vic kids are also shorter - and kids have limited reach so shorter is not a good thing

Also, if you go on the websites of major drumstick companies, like Vic, Firth, Promark, zildjian, etc. they will have all the lengths and diameters of every stick on there. I’m not sure if they sell this stick anymore but I have the Bill Stewart zildjian stick and it’s very thin and short, smaller than a 7A. That might be a good one and maybe you’d even wanna play it yourself if you play jazz or soft music.

When she’s 5 LOL shorter than the tom
I recall there were many cymbals she couldn’t reach

Might want to consider sticks made for electronic drums that absorb shock to protect the hands and arms while growing.

Depends on the size of the kit I think… the Kidsticks work fine if everything is kid sized - I’ve been “teaching” a 6 and 7yo on a 10/13/16 with a cymbal mount on the bd and they can reach everything with the Kidsticks. I think a 16” stick must feel crazy big in a 5-7yo hand.

But, if they need the reach to accommodate the kit they’re playing on - I’d get the lightest, thinnest, most grip heavy, like a Promark Rebound Balance 7A Maple Roundtip (which should be pretty good for an e-kit as well).

When my son was 5 (and younger), we got him the ProMark JR sticks.
He seemed to like them, and had no issues with the size.
