yeah...i knew jon a bit, he was kind of a mentor for a time, and i think he was using K's during that period...certainly his 'sound' was that boat anchor 22" K that only he could make sing!I always associated this record with Paistes, but I guess at least the heavy ride is a K:

last i heard it ended up with either terje rypdal or jan garbareck...but i could be wrong cause he was surrounded by a whole other group of folk in his later years...we lost touch in the later 90s...he had a 20" OS that was just as beafy that got used a bunch as well...Do you have any idea where it ended up?
RESEDA?!?!?It wasn’t Montreux - this video was filmed in Reseda, CA. Maybe he was borrowing the Paiste from someone, or just trying them out? He definitely manages to get his Lenny sound on them!
Correct - the Country Club! The credits for that video are elsewhere on YouTube, so they might not be correct. But yeah, it appears that a few jazz artists played there, besides the various rockers.RESEDA?!?!?
The only thing is Reseda was the Country club!
That makes sense because they did have some jazz but mostly mid level rock bands. I did see the Dixie Dregs there in 1982!
Fredy Studer was the driving force behind the Dark Ride, with Jack as the primary artist testing prototypes. I think they were going for the Tony sound, mostly. Lots of great info here:That's funny-- you just associate people with a certain thing, and they seem to sound like that. Like he's Norwegian ain't he? Well, then they're 602s.
I feel like that cymbal had to have been the inspiration for the 602 dark ride, though that could be wrong too. Do you have any idea where it ended up?
22" 602 Medium, Or Medium Ride even.Any of the Higgins with Cedar Walton and/or Clifford Jordan sides. That 22” Paperthin….
Love this Steve Grossman record as well, Billy thought his Paiste earned a spot on the cover apparently.
Dan Brubeck is the one jazzer I know who uses RUDE hats.Read a few times “jazzers” use the rude line when it was introduced
I think Paul is playing mainly Signatures here. He seemed to play whatever was Paiste's new line. He was one of the first to receive a set of Traditionals too.Paul Wertico an ocean of 602
Mark Griffiths is convinced it's a Paperthin. Perhaps he'll chime in?22" 602 Medium, Or Medium Ride even.
No, let me be clear. Higgins' 602 Blue 22" Paperthin was much later (early 90's.) He already had the Medium (from Ed) and had played it for a while. Then, in the early 90s Paiste sent out a bunch of 22" 602 Paperthins to various drummers including Billy Higgins and John Riley (before John was with Zildjian, Istanbul also sent John some stuff before he signed with Zildjian.) John LOVED the Paperthin but he wasn't going to sign with Paiste, so he was going to send it back. I played it at a lesson and LOVED IT!!!! So I contacted Paiste and I got it from John and Paiste (I was not an endorser yet.)Mark Griffiths is convinced it's a Paperthin. Perhaps he'll chime in?
I think the confusion comes about because Ed Blackwell gave it to him and Ed generally played the Medium and Medium Ride. Could be the Paperthin was too thin and that's why he gave it away?
Interesting re. Ed - he also played a Novo China and 13" Sound Edge 2002s.
I think you’re right. I took this screenshot here:I think Paul is playing mainly Signatures here. He seemed to play whatever was Paiste's new line. He was one of the first to receive a set of Traditionals too.
