I had the privilege of visiting another Five Star dealer today - Jeff Ryder drums in San Antonio. Very nice shop and very personable staff.

So far I have visited Stebal Drums (Cleveland), Ellis Drums (Minneapolis), Drum Headquarters (St. Louis), Drum World (Pittsburgh), Drum World (Tusla) and Columbus Percussion (Columbus, OH). I also hit Drums 2 Go in Orlando which is a great shop - but not an official part of this Five Star group.

Jeff Ryder's store had some great gear on display - not too much vintage stuff, just a tired Rogers kit and a Ludwig triangle badge "Standard" kit (but much more than that is hard to find).

Their sales guy was very personable and seemed to know what he was talking about.

All in all - this is a great store with a lot of good stuff on display.

If you are ever in the Champaign - Urbana Illinois area we have "Skins & Tins". They are a five star Shop :D

Hey 69... didn't know you were visting our great state. Came at the right time to! 105 degrees in the shade :)

Jeff's a good guy. I used to take lessons from him and have shopped the store even before it was Jeff's way back to 1983...

If you get to Harrisburg PA to visit Dale's Drum Shop (it is a 5 star) send me a PM and I'll meet you there!
:D

My apologies to Tanko - my "World Tour" is somewhat limited to my job related domestic travels. However - my ancestry is 100% Dutch so maybe I will make a point to visit Amsterdam one of these days.

I have heard great things about Dale's Drum Shop. I will get there sometime soon and will give "Lossforgain" a call - it's always great to meet a DFO brother face to face.

Dale's Drums Shop is great! Great people, great service, I could go on.

"Rhythm Traders" in Portland, Oregon is a "5 Star" dealer, but for the life of me I can't figure out why or how....

You can scratch West Coast Drum Center (Costa Mesa, CA) off the list. I was back there a few months back and they were closing shop. Sad coincidence that I should be there on one of their final days.

I went to the Sabian factory last summer and Jeff was one of the other dealers on the trip. Great guy. He and his dad run a great shop

Don't worry, i was just wondering if you were serious :D
You'll love amsterdam..

Get up to Seattle & check out Donn Bennett's shop; he's 5-star. lots of vintage squeezed into a tiny space. Good guys, too...marko

In my thirty years as a manufacturer's representative in the musical instrument industry I never once heard the term "5 Star Dealer or Drum Shop". Of course, my customer base did not include drum-only shops. Is this some secret society with their own secret hand shake? Is it a club that some stores started up with selective membership? Is it a subjective designation given to certain stores by PASIC? Please enlighten me.

They won't let you in there Howie...

you're only 3 star material.

That's an odd turn for this post - but interesting nonetheless.

For those of you who don't know - the Five Star Dealer network is an association of independent DRUM dealers that have banded together to create the critical mass necessary to get deals, discounts and special private label products so they can compete with the national retailers.

Every one of the stores I have visited is more knowledgable and more devoted to percussion than the Big Boys.
