Talk about “ Rent free “ .
Would you like to discuss the 5 private messages you sent me yesterday Jeffery? And that the only way I could get you to stop was to go to the Mods. Would you like to discuss how you are so insecure you felt the need to send me company records to show what a great salesman you think you are? You still cant let this go.

I came across this SRV vid with Hakim

Hakim was the drummer in the house band of Dave Sanborn's late 80's "Sunday Night" then later named "Night Music" TV show for most of run. Google "Dave Sanborn Night Music" for great, great performances of every music genre imaginable with Hakim driving the killer band!

I used to watch that every Sunday !!

I’m sure in some cases the singer and bandmates wished the drummer could play like anyone other than how they play. Some are sort of married into a band so the rest suffer with the weak player.
I'm sorry but I may have missed an underlying message in this post initially. If I did and it was actually directed at Houndog it's a bit below the belt and not correct as the music posted on here that I have heard is well served by Houndog's drumming.

We're obviously not all going to love each other's input, sure. But having a whack about what we think of someone's musical abilities without being asked for constructive criticism is not great form. Let's all have a bit of a go at each other if required, but not get into that territory.

I have two answers, one of them with a caveat:

My first immediate response is Carter McLean. Oh man, if I could play with his intelligence and touch, not only do I feel like I could play any genre, I think I might actually enjoy doing so!

Here’s the caveat. Probably the drummer I RECOGNIZE the most is Phil Collins. And, suitably, among known, professional drummers, he has a lot of vocal admirers. Really good ones with successful careers in their own right. And no matter how good these guys are at imitating him, I always notice one thing. Invariably with all of them, they capture all of Phil’s sizzle, and all almost none of his warmth.

So I think the right answer to the question, “who would I most like to play like?” is “the best version of me I can possibly be.” In fact, I suspect most of us would eventually answer that way. After all, the best music any of us has doesn’t come from our fandom of what’s outside of us, it comes from our humanity that’s within us.

Which, back to Carter, is probably the element of his playing that makes him sound so good in the first place.
Spot on regarding Carter - and the importance of being authentic and genuine with musical expression

If don’t mind a “ bit of a go “ but this Mykete fella has been throwing some insults and accusations my way unfounded , I’ve not responded in kind at all .
Wonder if he realizes who really looks like the “ bully , jealous of others riches etc …”
That he accuses me of being .

Even after I have walked away from this 2 times, and asked you to leave me out of your conversations by both myself and the mods you just can’t stop yourself. You are just forcing me to do things I don’t want to do.

Then stop chasing me around and taking jabs , it’s that simple …

I hope you are are done like you say you are , we can be friends ya know .
I’m a pretty good guy ya know .

Jay Bellarose. Every note and every rest is just right.

Jake Hanna. Was great with Woody Herman and Super Sax, to name a couple.

This post has gotten a lot of traction. For me, I'd say Adam Deitch.

I recently has this question in mind and came up with 5 drummers that I'd love to steal what they can do:
  1. Adam Deitch
  2. Matt Chamberlain
  3. Vinnie Colaiuta
  4. Robert "Sput" Searight
  5. Nate Smith
All of them have a high level of flexibility. I think my playing right now is probably closer to Steve Jordan, but I love what all these players bring to the game. I put Adam on the top of my list because he plays the closest to how I'd like to see myself playing.

If we're lucky we get to a point with our playing where we are a combination of all of our influences. It's kind of like mixing paint, you can come up with a number of different colors from mixing a few together. That said, I don't think I want to be an exact duplicate of any one drummer, but if I had the skills of any of the ones on my list, I'd be able to make those skills my own from what I hear in my head and the things that are already in my playing.
