I have absolutely nothing to do today and I’m 2 hours from Memphis. I’ve thought of going to check out Memphis Drum Shop since I’ve never taken a trip over there. For those who have visited what should I expect? What are some other places in the area to check out also?

While I do a lot of horse trading online with them, I make that trek at least twice a year ... regardless of my location at the time. It is worth the trip.
Unreal cymbal selection.
Great Vintage gear.
Most of the staff are personable and helpful.
Excellent new equipment to select from.
There are many many things to see and explore in the area. Without knowing your likes though, it would be difficult to suggest.
I will say, the historical sites alone are worth it. Amazing depth.
What Mcjnic said! Well worth the trip... cool place! I've bought three cymbals from them so far, the most recent one is on its way via FedEx to me now! Had really good luck "auditioning" cymbals from their videos, but I've visited the place once and thoroughly enjoyed the visit!

If you're hungry, I have a couple of EXCELLENT eating options close by. Central BBQ is right around the corner about 1/2 mile. And Soul Fish Cafe is practically right next door. Both excellent places!

Memphis Drum Shop is my favorite online retailer by far. They make finding the right gear so easy for me. Their online info on each cymbal’s weight, look, and sound is unmatched by any other store. I wouldn’t buy new cymbals online from anybody else. I also have an SQ2 snare on order through them and a custom 18” Collector’s Exotic floor tom on order through them. Plus they offer free shipping on a lot of items and don’t charge me tax online :). I absolutely love Memphis Drum Shop!

Sorry, I’m no help when it comes to in store visits though. I live 15hrs away from the store and have never even been to Memphis. I imagine their selection is fantastic though! Especially considering how well stocked their online store always is. If I were within a few hrs driving distance and had extra money, I would definitely stop by the shop. I wouldn’t want to go in there with $0 cash to spend.

We had a good time. I purchased some drum heads and a Memphis Drum Shop tshirt. We made a trip to the Bass Pro at the Pyramid also. It was a fun trip, and MDS is outstanding!

It's a great store to visit. I had a conference in Memphis in 2019 (for my day job) and decided to look up their website. Turns out John Riley was doing as clinic there that day, so I grabbed a Lyft and headed over. Great clinic, had fun watching kids learn, then enjoyed all the pristine vintage kits there, the cymbal room, and the whole vibe of the place. And anyone going to Memphis (whenever we return to something like "normal") has to check out Beale Street and, especially, the National Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Motel.

I can't believe I've never stopped there on my way to Tennessee gigs. Definitely gotta make a trip soon!

I've been to Memphis two times for family reunions and didn't even know they were there. WHERE have I been living? UNDER A ROCK.............................?

I live in Austin Texas area, diffidently not a day trip.

I was in Memphis just a year ago, back when traveling was easy, with my wife and Mother-in-law. We packed in a lot of stuff while there: The civil-rights museum; Sun Records; Stax Records; Beal St.; A drive-by of Graceland, and finally, almost as an after-thought, Memphis Drum Shop.

Wow! And I almost didn't go. My wife and her Mother went with me. Despite it being nearly closing time, we were lucky enough to get a full tour from owner Jim Petit (he and I had a nodding acquaintance from various trade shows). The gong room is spectacular! My mother-in-law hit on Jim!!

never been, quite the drive, but seems like a great shop, enjoy their videos.

I love Memphis Drum Shop. I've bought a few cymbals from them and they have fantastic service. I especially love the way that they pack the cymbals for shipping. I would love to take a drive there one day.
