Three former (and maybe future) rockers who are indulging in their mid-life jazzbo fantasies. It might be jazz, it might be funk, it might be muzak...but it's definitely a fun time for us.

This is video from last week's gig....a swanky affair where, as is typically the case, hardly anyone was listening to us. It seems the more we get paid the less people listen to us. At the local bookstore, where we basically play for tips, there's an attentive crowd hanging on every note....at the ritzy parties and such where we get paid well we're just expensive background noise. Oh well, we still have fun regardless, we never play a song exactly the same twice, and it's nice to go home with a wad of cash in your pocket.

Some Beatles

and some Herbie Hancock with a "fun-kay" middle section.

Those are my new (freshly peeled you might say) Gretsch Renown 57 drums. I'm lovin' that set.

I enjoyed it - great job! Love the drum and cymbal sound as well. Looks like you guys were enjoying yourselves.

Thanks MrDrums.
I have quite a few cymbals and these are the ones that have risen to the top of that heap.

Nice work I really enjoyed your interpretations.

Kevin, that was very nice! Your keyboard player has some McCoy Tyner in him someplace. I really liked his chording on N-Wood.

+1 on those cymbals. They sound great in that room. Very airy.

You guys have a neat sound. The Band I'm in is similar to what you guys are doing.whole lot of fun.

Kevin - VERY tasty - I would love to talk my keyboard & bass player into doing a side project like this.

I am surprised you could do Norwegian Wood on anything other than Oyster Black Pearl!

Thanks for sharing!

I think KO has found the band we all want to be in.

Nice work.

Elvis

P.S. I take it you're going to perform at your local Jazz fest this summer?

Sounds great! The cymbalholic in me is dying to know what cymbals you're using!
CAMBER! TELL HIM CAMBER!...OR KRUT, THAT'LL WORK, TOO!

...:-D (Sorry Noah, just playin' with ya's :D )

Nice sounding drums!

Very cool stuff. Listened to all of it.

If you lot are ever in the QC please let me know! I'd love to hang out and listen to y'all play.

You should look into getting a gig at the River Music Experience in downtown Davenport. There is actually a good sized group of jazz fans that show up there. There's been a good turnout every time I can manage to get a group together to play a show.

Haaa! That's too funny, Elvis. (my first cymbals were Camber)

Very nice playing. You're my kind of musician. :occasion5:

Actually I've been wanting to see about playing there. My old band played at the Redstone several times and that's a great venue but I figured we might be better for downstairs. Either way now we might give it a shot now that we have some halfway decent video we could show them.

My old band's last QC gig (in fact our last gig ever) was at the Waterfront Convention Center...now that was cool but I doubt they're ever going to want a jazz trio there :-(

Thanks!
I bought them all in a box at guitar center, ZBT Rock I think it said on the box.

or they might be

13" Istanbul (pre-split) HH top
13" K zildjian hi hat top (from a KZ pair) on the bottom (it's slightly heavier than the Isty)

20" A. Zildjian Transition stamp (1611 grams of the wobbly stuff cymbal dreams are made of)
20" Matt Bettis Ride (also extremely dreamy)
19" Dream Bliss crash ride with three rivets (says "dream" right on it)
20" Murat Diril Flat Ride with two rivets

So...just your basic run of the mill cymbal selection.

Plus my new Gretsch Renowns (with diplomat weight Fiberskyn batters on the toms) and my "made in Chicago USA" hammered bronze Ludwig snare.

It don't get much better than that my friends
