Okay, lets talk. This picture of Neil's Time Machine kit threw me for a loop (thank you for the pic, JT). I mean all the small details that were put into the theme. They have done everything from the ground up on this kit...the floor even matches the shells!! I especially love the cymbal stand posts. The wooden bases with brass (gold) accent rings, the water faucet tension knobs, the weighted ends were all obviously custom made to fit...just for THIS look. Man...I wish I had that kind of moola laying around! Even the lugs have special "gear type" bases incorporated under them. The finish is outstanding 3D quality, as is the bass drum reso head artwork. I could just stare at this kit for hours. In fact I've made it my desk top background so I CAN!

Some of you may think this is over board and garish looking, but to me, it's a work of art. Discuss if you wish...

In have been in top 4-star hotel rooms that look worse - even if they did have gold bathroom fittings,.
But for me, the priorities would be elsewhere - like a roof over my head, a car, furniture etc.
I have a nice kit with nice cymbals that do the job very well already and suit my needs as well as my pocket.
IMHO, it's all a bit over the top.

Very cool. ...It ALMOST works. The bass drum head really needs to be simplified. It looks like an after thought. Other than that I like them.

True, as I noted, but then again, Neil & the band still packs stadiums. It's all about the show for them these days. This kit is a huge part of a Rush "show". It fits the bill. And, why not. If you have the money, spend it on some great artwork...BE the show.

Now if either you or I showed up in a hotel lobby or side street club with this kit, then yes...overboard.

Heck, this picture is proof that Neils drum kits do their own touring! (with the help of his drum tech of course)

Note: Even the cymbals have special etching to match! Money...the root of all self indulgence!

The Jules Verne kit, I like it !

No more over the top than Alan Whites glass kit, Carl Palmers stainless kit, etc.

Does this kit have the 23" bass drum? Also, if anyone knows, who actually pays for this kit? Peart? DW? or both? Same question for the apparently unbranded cymbals.

Do you guys really believe Neil pays for these kits? With the influence Neil has on the DW kit buyers, I would think DW would do kits like this for him all day long. I could be way of base though.

I wouldn't want it, but I think it's very well done. It's just not my thing but boy did someone put some work into that kit. Very imaginative, and lots of little details. I have to be honest, when I saw it in the other post I just scrolled right past it and thought man, another hideous Neil Peart kit LOL. I didn't notice the detail until you pointed it out.

Neils cymbals have always had the low key market logos, but make no mistake, you will always know what camp he's in. His kits are for him, and he's having more fun with theme kits than ever. How many has he done? When Ludwig did the Ro Sham Bo kit I wonder if that was to bring him back in with the Legacy line? Neil with any company = sales. Good for him and them. I'd sit behind that kit if I had earned the large stadium budget life.

Have you noticed if you take away all the extra, he's a basic 4pc set up. Makes me feel like he plays from the same place we all do.

I "left" Rush after Moving Pictures, but IMHO I think it's always kind of a tradition for the fans and the whole Rush show to anticipate what Neil's setup is going to be for each album/tour. Heck, there's entire websites dedicated to it! Each passing setup always out-does the previous...which is cool, and I get it. I'd just be curious as to actually how much money has gone into this kit and platform, from the steampunk design on up!

Neil can afford these custom kits & if he sells them I'm sure he gets back all his money or more. Not crazy about all those stands, you would think a custom rack would be easier to use.

Thanks for the pic, drum on.

The cymbals..

Are those still his Sabian Paragon cymbals?

I'm kind of surprised there is no cymbal manufacturer logo anywhere since he is usually a big endorser.

Neil has always been kind of anti-logo. Back in the day, he polished his Zildjians to the point that the ink logo came off. When he set up his endorsement with Sabian, he made sure the logo was understated....a point which, I hear, was contested by Sabian.

The chainring graphics on all the toms, I assume, represent his well known love of bicycling.

Certainly one of the most outlandish sets I've ever seen.
Alex and Geddy's Time Machine amp rigs were both equally extravagant, visually.
