Nice to see the 15" DE's back. I'm curious to know how they sound compared to the older version. I was hoping that they'd do a 15" Giant Beat Sound Edge this year, but alas..

I know they can't have 8000 different models in the catalog, but you'd think they, out of anybody, would be able to whip up a black label 404, or a 3000 RUDE, or a 24" 2002 Flat - anything they have a master, the right alloy, and a large enough blank for.

Watching the videos from NAMM it appears that Paiste are indeed going to be drip feeding new models and relaunches throughout the year. I really respect that, although my bank balance likely won't.

As an aside, I really like the sound of those 2002 Extreme Crashes.

Who was the lovely Lady at the paiste booth signing autographs? She was sitting next to Danny Carey (By the way, Danny announced to a fan that april is the timeframe for the new Tool album)

Glad to see some Sigs back in the lineup. IMO they resurrected the wrong models. I think if they had brought back the "ROCK" model 2oo2, 602 Classic Heavy Ride/Hats, and the SC Dark Ride & Hats they would steal the show.

I want the 602 line expanded.. I don't want to see the Sound creation Dark Ride... I want to see the predecesor to that cymbal which was the 602 dark Ride.

^I'm surprised that the Sound Creation Dark Ride and Bell Ride haven't made it back into the lineup. Maybe it has to do with the popularity of the bigger/thinner ride these days and once that fades, they will bring some of the SC Rides back.

You know what? I had a 602 Transition Dark Ride and an '80 SC Dark, and I sold the earlier one. Too normal, not enough grump and clank. I have some old 602 HEAVY rides that are better for that "weird, but not SC Dark weird" mood.

Not that I don't want Paiste to bring them back, but I bet if they made a new early-style 602 Dark Ride there wouldn't be much daylight between it and the ME's.

More Classic 602's!

I think you might be referring to Elise Trouw.

I assume you have seen this before perhaps? You'd think for this model they would charge you 30% less instead of more. I can't imagine its much more than a 24" standard ride without the bell pressed in.

Hahaha I spent six months collecting the mellow crashes used earlier this year. Sound great, good choice to reissue...
I lucked into an 18” mellow crash at a garage sale over the summer. Neighbor parents were cleaning out a sons storage unit and let me have it for $5. After a quick wipe down, the 18 Mellow overtook an assortment of Ks and Cons to be my primary crash.
I’m going to try and take it in to A/B against the reissues. Then again, this one may have some of that “mildew mojo”

I've been collecting evidence of time lag between production year and year of first retail sale and I just came across this nice piece of evidence. Here is the production year for the "new for 2019" Signature 22" Full Ride: 2018.

22-sfull-stamp.jpg

Now before I hear too many yawns, yes we all know that companies have to produce cymbals and have them in stock before they are released. But the time lags between production year and recalled year of first purchase seem to be forgotten when vintage cymbals are considered. I've previously documented the same thing for Zildjian and its nice to have Paiste evidence as well. It's just that before serial numbers which indicate production year were available people tended to treat recalled year of first purchase as if it were the year of factory production. As this shows there is at least one year of uncertainty in there, and for trying to infer years for older cymbals and their trademark stamps there is probably two years or more of uncertainty. The older the cymbal, the harder it is to pin down a year.

Not only are recalled years of purchase a little uncertain when you are asking somebody to remember back 50 or 60 years, but the recalled year of purchase only tells you the cymbal had to be manufactured before then. Cymbals which came new with a drum kit purchase can cross check with the year of the drum kit if it can be reliably identified to one or two years. There is no telling how long the cymbal might have been sitting in the shop before it was purchased. The current world's record is 30 years. This was an 11" 276g cymbal with a 1940s A Zildjian trademark stamp purchased new in a drum shop in Sydney Australia in the early 1970s. We don't expect the average time lag between manufacture and purchase to be anything like that. With an invoice or a recalled purchase we are getting a data point which estimates year of first retail purchase not year of production.

Sweetwater has had the 22" Sig Full Ride for months now as a part of their Signature pack.

That introduces another issue I've been documenting, which is that the details of when a particular model is "released" or "available for sale" get hazy as time passes. Hence a need to document some of these releases as they happen.

Does the Sweetwater pack count as a release of the 22" Full Ride? Or is it when the model is available on its own? Does the model count as released if it is exclusive to Sweetwater? There were some "limited production" or "special order" re-release fo602 22" Medium Rides available from some specific outlets prior to the fo602 22" Medium Ride appearing in the official offerings from Paiste. The complexities of marketing start making inroads on clarify of definition.

I see the Sweetwater pack here: https://www.sweetwater.com/store/de...e-classic-cymbal-pack-with-free-16-inch-crash

The video was posted June 18, 2018. Can we take that as the date when the pack first appeared? Or could it have been offered before the video went up on YouTube? :dontknow:

As a further twist in the tale, Paiste released some official "series comparison" type videos last year, filmed in their Nottwill plant on their Paiste bronze kit. The Signature segment featured the 22" Full Ride. This was, I think (but can't be 100% sure), a month or two prior to the Sweetwater video.
