This show that aired from 88-90 on NBC. I was a kid back then and really don't remember it. I think maybe it aired really late at night.

Anyways, I just discovered a bunch of episodes loaded on to youtube. I've really been digging watching them. Lots of interesting music.

House band was Omar Hakim, Marcus Miller, and Hiram Bullock.

This particular youtube user has a bunch uploaded with pretty good quality sound.

I sure remember it. That was one of - if not THE - best music series on TV (IMHO). At least on network TV.

I'm so glad you can watch some of the episodes again (on YouTube).

I remember it as well and discovered the YouTube stuff about a month back. Lots of great stuff there.

So many great performances on that show: Milton Nasciemento (with Nana Vasconcelos), Steve Swallow and Carla Bley, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Todd Rundgren ("I Can't Stop Running" - highly recommended), Allen Toussaint, Taj Mahal, Ivo Papasov, Hank Crawford, Abbie Lincoln, Steve Turre (conch shells, performing "All Blues"), Charlie Haden, Modern Jazz Quartet, Pat Metheny Group...hell, Metheny, Rundgren, and Taj Mahal were on THE SAME NIGHT.

If it was for sale on DVD, I'd buy every single damn episode.

Great show, check out Screamin' Jay Hawkins' "Old Man River", it is incredible...except for the crazy part, about the best version I've ever heard.

didn't watch it at the time but thanks to youtube uploaders i rediscovered it. killer stuff.

my faves are SRV, robert cray & john haitt, and rufus thomas.

and if memory serves me well...dr. john & jools holland playing boogie woogie.

now i gotta go watch'em again.

I remember that show - may still have some episodes on VCR tapes. :)

Great show. Will have to check out the YT stuff- thanks for posting.

I got to go to a couple tapings back in the day, as host David Sanborn, is managed by my financial planner/ accountants Jack and John Newsholme Associates. That show was off the hook !! R.I.P. Hiram B. The wife and I used to see H.B. in NYC anytime we could...definition of soulful / funky fusion. IMHO

Happy holidays, guys. If you haven't seen this {it's my gift to you !!!}

I was VERY peripherally aware of this show as a nine and ten year old—when my excursions into music were definite, but uncontrolled. I saw some clips a few years ago, and lamented that I couldn't experience this with my focus that I possess nowadays.

Thanks for posting - Some friends and I have recently been checking out Oz Noy with Steve Wolf and we were talking about the good old HB days...

Night Music was a great show - I really miss that time period in NYC - so much music. I ran into Omar Hakim at Tower Records while they were shooting the show... He was very cool...
