1956 18.5" Sizzle Ride.
I picked it up in 2009. I might be selling it in the near future. I see old k's are valuable sought after cymbals.
I may have it appraised but I thought I'd ask here for help in what a fair market price would be. I know there's a lot of knowledge here.

Hi Gary!

About a year ago, 18" Old Stamp old Ks, in decent condition, were going anywhere from/to $800-$1200 USD. Though recently there's been erratic bumps in pricing, although regardless, you have an Old Stamp (valuable).

In decent condition (no cracks, original old-school bell hole size, NO modifications), an OS Type IIIb may fetch anywhere from the above beginning point to $1400 USD, depending. (Also depending on the excitement of the buyer.)

*I've actually paid a few hundred more for 18" Types III, depending. Lots of "depends". LOL.

I would measure it at 8 symmetric locations and record the low, high, median, and average values. An accurate weight is very important too.
There's a premium for closer to 19" than 18". A bottom shot would help to determine how bold the factory ink signature is or the condition of any remaining paper stickers.
A side shot is needed as well to determine shape/profile and any warping. Everyone values these single factors differently. So a "range" is about as good as you can get.

Thank you guys, and yes, I will get an accurate gram weight, some more photos and measurements. I'll post all this if and when I put it up for sale in the future.

Cheers

Gary

Yes, probably 19 or more is better. However, for me, this 18.5" fits the bill. It's got amazing tone. The rivets add to the texture/colour just perfect. An amazing old cymbal. I have quite a few modern Istanbul Agop cymbals ranging in size from 10" up to a 21" Sizzle Ride and some 1960s A Zildjians and the 18.5" is in another class altogether.

Also important is how it sounds. If it's a good one, and you can provide a sound sample, you might get more.
