SO I bought Christopher Guest's "A Mighty Wind" on dvd last night. It was in the clearance bin at Walgreen's for $1.99!!
I can see why it didn't do well in the theaters, what with it being about folk music...you have o have been a folkie or raised by one to really get most of the jokes.
Me, I about laughed myself into a rupture...watched it twice and still haven't gotten most of the subtleties. "There was abuse in my house as a child...but it was mostly musical in nature."
I was also quite amazed that all the actors played their own instruments and sang live. And that Michael McKean and Anette O'Toole wrote most of the materiel.

Anybody else enjoy this and Guest's other films? Besides Spinal Tap, I mean. We all love Spinal Tap. Or we should.

I am a huge fan of Christopher Guest's films. I think my favourite's gotta be waiting for guffman.

I liked "A Mighty Wind," but I really liked "Best In Show." Both of those feature a similar cast (like most of Guest's films I suppose) but I just find it a little more accessible since most people at one time or another have owned a dog or knew someone with a dog. I liked the end of "Wind" where Harry Shearer decides he's more happy as a woman, but still playing the same bass parts vocally. Did anyone catch the episode a few years back of VH1's Where Are They Now that featured Spinal Tap? I believe they may have included it with the more recent releases of "This Is Spinal Tap." It was pretty funny to see where life had taken these fictional yet realistic characters.

Mighty Wind is maybe my favorite of the group. I actually dig The Main Street Singers with their 9-part arrangements. Jane Lynch kills me in that flick. meow.

It's the neuftet!

Great flick! Very dry humor, like all his films.
Guffman, Best in Show, all great.
The Folksman made a cameo in the live Spinal Tap tape.
My current fave is For Your Consideration. Guest is almost unrecognizable.

Fred Willard is my favorite in all these Guest movies... Waiting for Guffman is truly a classic!

Fred Willard is sheer genius. And has been since the Martin Mull show of the 1970s. I love all of the Christopher Guest films. His characters are so right on.
