Often the curse of the vintage aficionado is that they're slow to embrace technology. Fortunately or unfortunately, these days a vintage drum store often needs to be online to survive. I've been going to A Drummer's Tradition for years and I want the place to be there forever. If you want to see what's in the store don't go to their out-of-date website, start here instead. Cheers.

That Rogers Red Onyx snare has been sold already

I've been going to A Drummer's Tradition since it started as a mail order/storage unit in San Rafael by Liam Mulholland. Then the short lived disaster of being located in Drum World in San Francisco. Which eventually led to the opening of the store on 4th & G in San Rafael w/ business partner Robert Bowler in 1996.

Since then Robert bought Liam out and moved the store to 2nd & A in San Rafael to a bigger store. I hang out there all the time and it's amazing to see the stuff that Robert gets in his store. The good stuff goes quick hence my main reason for hanging out there.

I purchased my first set of Camco drums in that store along with my first set of George Way drums (The GW kit is now back and part of RB's personal collection). He also let me do a 3 month layaWAY on a 1929 Ludwig Black Beauty plus he let me take the drum home  I ended up paying it off in two months. Robert is a great guy but if you burn him, you will see his temper!!!

If you live in the area or just visiting, ADT is a must see.

Man oh Man . . . . . . . Do they need an overnight custodian. . . . Night Watchmen. . . Securlty Guard?? I'll be the "LOT" boy and clean everybody up. . . . . . . .

They always used to advertise in the old Not So Modern Drummer Magazine, and they always had the coolest stuff!!. the green sparkle Gretsch kit Oh my!!! :occasion5:

That green sparkle Gretsch kit was on consignment from a guy named Walt here in the Bay Area. He just took it back and dropped the price to $2500. If interested contact: shufflesworth@yahoo.com

That's a great store. I've dealt with them a couple of times. I bought my vintage Gretsch set from them. Their stuff is the best. I wish them well, and I hope they can keep going.

I used to own that red sparkle Radio King set. That was one great sounding drum set. It had a 7x11 tom that was the best sounding tom tom I ever played. The bass drum had blinking lights inside. A very fun set to play and I used it on a lot of gigs.Glad to see it on display.

Oh, and just to clarify, I didn't mean to suggest that the store was in any danger of going under (not that I'd know one way or the other, but...), but only that I think it's a great place that I hope will be around for a very long time.

Is the gray Yamaha kit an ex-Peter Erskine kit???
Great photos!

Great looking store with a ton of beautiful vintage sets. I wish it was close to where I vacation in CA.
