title says all. big and thin crashes. 20's around 1600-1800 grams, and 22's as well.

I'm a Zildjian guy, but I'm looking for thin crashes. the remastered A's are too thick. Great for rock and full strokes, but not soft or buttery enough. I have an endorser friend who gets K Cons lathed down, but I don;t have that hook up. Maybe a 22" Paiste 602 paper thin ? But that's crazzy $$

I recently picked up a set of Paiste Masters Thins that do the big soft crash thing beautifully. 20ers run about 1600g, 22ers around 2100g and 24ers around 2775g. I have the 20 & 24, along with the 22 Swish. Wonderful cymbal set.

The Masters are pricey, for sure, but as long term players, not completely unreasonable.
 
Other than thin Zildjian thins....the Paiste PST7 thins, Sound Formula thins, and Signature thins are also quite buttery. Even the cheap Wuhan 20% bronze thins which are buyable for $30-$50 each in 16-20" sizes are very fast and almost sound Zildjian-like on some of them. My last Wuhan 16" thin crash sounded almost exactly like my paper thin 16" Zildjian. Personally, I use the Paiste Sound Formula thin 18 and 16. The PST7 thin 18 crash and 20 in crash/ride are also good...and easy on the budget.
 
Have you considered going Turkish? I see Bosphorus and Agop crashes in that weight fairly frequently. Either Bosphorus Masters or Master Vintages might be a good option.
 
Bettis has a 21" on eBay. Can't go wrong with that. Just listen to the sound file.

Have you considered a Paiste reverend als big ride? For what I wanted to play it sucked as a ride, but I thought it made a pretty nice 24" crash. It's definitely on the ultra-light side in weight.
 
Paiste Giant Beats (regular and Thin versions) and 2002 Big Beats. Buttery goodness in spades.
 
I have. 60 Z 1820 g that has an excellent crash.
My 22 Sabian HH is only 2080g, a great crash.
Ill repeat the Bettis and Collingwood recommendations..
 
Maybe check out the Istanbul Agop Traditional line. They have a variety of weights. For the weight range in question, I'd consider the Original, Light and Dark models.

The Xist stuff is cool too, but they are a bit brighter and have a Paiste-ish shimmer. You need to find the right one though - I find some models to be exceedingly bright with some funky overtones. But the good ones are amazing
 
Please remember I'm looking at 20's that are (hopefully) around 1600 grams, and 22's under 2000g. I don't know if the Paistes qualify. The Xist idea sounds interesting

I have a Trans Zildjian 20" 1777g. It's rides better than a crash. Sometimes you just have to have it your hand to tell.
 
Actually if you can find an old Paiste 404 20" crash model, those are probably among the thinnest cymbals made in that era. Also it will be a rather affordable cymbal too.

From your first post: "20s around 1.600 - 1.800 grams".
The Giant and Big Beats are around 1.800 in 20", Giant Beat Thins are less than 1.700. 22" are 2.200-2.300.
You should still give them a try. :icon_smile:
 
I would recommend a Bosphorus Masters Series for this.
 
I will second the Masters dark crashes, Thins, and 602 Thins. All great cymbals, especially when you have a few to use together.
