Apparently, no one was buying them. Well, I thought they were great. The clear dot was actually a tiny bit thinner than the black (or white) dot, and being clear, was unaffected by stage lights or sunlight. They won't even accept special orders of this head anymore.

I'm not sure if that was originally a marching snare head or not, but they were getting harder and harder to find over the last couple of years, so I figured something was up. I used to use the 14" size on my snare all the time. I may still have that size in the racks.? But, as far as toms, I could never find the sizes for my toms so I played black dots there.

I used them on all my toms (as well as bass drum and snare), but that was over ten years ago. I really wanted to get a bunch and was pretty bummed out that they have decided to axe them.

Wow! I never knew that they even existed.
And that's why they didn't sell. If more people had known about them, they would have sold a bunch of them. I bet you weren't aware of the Remo CS-0114-20 either. It was a 14" coated controlled sound, but the dot underneath was CLEAR. It sounded similar to an Ambassador with a bit more heft. And since the dot was clear, you didn't see anything, unlike the versions with the black or white dots.
Pretty sure that Neil Peart used the clear dots on his snare and bass drums back when he was playing the large double bass drum sets.

Neil Peart's go to head for his snare and bass drum batters was the CS Clear Dot, from around 1977 or 78 until the Freddie Gruber era (post 1995.) I suspect the Peart fanatics (some of which are always hard at work building replicas of Neil's 80s and early 90s kits) will have something to say about this news.

Same

Although I never liked clear heads on a snare tbh.

I can’t find a picture of a clear head with clear dot, but it reminds me of the clear p77.

How can you tell the dot’s not there? :). Wonder if they still could make them on a custom request. I know Aquarian will to a certain extent

I recently purchased an Amby X for my Maple 14 X 5.5 Snare. It supplies that little more heft you refer to compared to the coated Amby batter head.

I bought one a while back and they forgot to glue it so it just popped off the collar when I tried tuning it. I did contact Remo and they sent me a new one no questions asked. This was months ago though. Maybe it’s a collectors item now ;).

Yep, WHITE DOTS too are discontinued I believe (for those of you that didnt know white dots were available, you learned something new AGAIN). I bought white dots for a red/white/blue Vistaite kit and they look great. Remo makes the crimplock "Ludwig" silver dots...silver looks best, until you play on them!

I used them a few times on my toms and bass drum.
I liked them. The stick/beater sound was slightly softer than the black dot.
Likely why Neil Peart used it over a black dot. You get the clarity and presence of a CS, but the sound isn't quite as harsh.

The mil thickness is different also, at least NOW, because the heaviest that kind of clear material is available in is 4 mil thickness.

The white dot model, the last time I got them (about 2 years ago) was thinner than the black by maybe 1 or 2 mil. It MAY have been 5 mil (like the black) years ago, but I haven't found that material thickness (industry materials). I have found 3 and 4 mil, and that is what the last white dot was like.

I'd say that the Aquarian Clear w/Power Dot is pretty close to the CS clear dot in sound.

I had too many issues like this with Remo and switched to Evans. Never looked back (except the Starfire as Evans doesn’t make those).

Suprised the dot didn’t came off. Had that happen a few times too.

Especially for the money you have to pay these days for new heads.

Remo made WHITE Dots????? Seriously. No idea!

I'm hoping the smooth white and clear emperors are safe as well as the coated ambassadors! Do I need to start stacking?
