Hello. New to this thread. I am looking to restore this snare drum and looking for advise on finding or modifying the snare to install. So far all my searches come up empty.

That strainer is called a p-87. If you search snare wires for Ludwig p-87 you’ll find original options and videos on how to get regular wires to work with it

Thank you 1988fxlr. I found one. May I inquire of you again?
What is the best way to remove pitting from chrome?

If you’re taking it all apart, I like to soak everything other than galvanized washers in evaporust over night and then rinse off with water and wipe down with a dry cloth. If you are leaving the drum assembled I would try something mild like nev’r dull first and then move on to more aggressive polish like flitz on bad areas

If you take the lugs off, I always use Turtle Wax chrome cleaner. The bottles go a long way vs I use Flitz also as a secondary rust/cleaner. The Flitz bottles are small (maybe 3 ozs) and are more expensive. With the lugs off, I would polish the wrap with Meguiars PlastX plastic cleaner. This is a cleaner and polisher in one bottle. I use another 2 Meguiars products - one is a cleaner and the second is a polisher. I restore drums all the time but if this is just a one off for you then the PlastX will be fine. Overnight soak in Dawn for the tension rods.

I like to polish chrome-plated parts with Brasso and a microfiber cloth. Pitting, unfortunately, cannot be removed, but it can be made to look more acceptable.
