Seems like a strong price for right now. Seller's photos and description were not very detailed. With shipping and sales tax figure around $11,000 all-in to the winning bidder.
Interesting, the seller put these up as singles, not the entire kit. What a mess for bidders. And they did that twice. At least they were in the key order of 18, 14, 12, renown snare
drum when going off. But if you win the bass drum, then lose a later drum, what then? Based on the seller's handling of the listings, I figured the kit would sell for $8K or less.

It seemed like a pretty clean and original kit to me. Seller swapped the original heads which probably hadn't been off for decades.....and didn't bother to take interior shots
of the 12 and 14 toms. Only obvious flaw was a 1-2" piece of missing inlay wrap on one of the BD hoops. Sizes were measured incorrectly.

Oddly, neither of the 2 high bidders even bothered to bid on the snare drum to take it higher than $310. That seems dumb to me. The serial number on the snare was 87xxx
so pretty close to the BD 89xxx. With about 40-45 watchers on these only 2 bidders took the BD above the $3300 level..........running it up to $6600+. That's a thin market.
Imagine if one of those guys didn't show up tonight? Even stranger, these same drums were up for auction a week ago as singles and brought a combined $11,700....with the
winning bidder backing out....so said the seller. The 12 and 14 toms brought over $6K combined first time around....that's a lot imo. Then a more reasonable $3500 tonight.

In that earlier auction the 2 highest bidders did not return for tonight's 2nd go around. But the 3rd highest bidder from last week did return. And they
were the one who ran the eventual higher bidder to an extra $3400 on the BD, an extra $1450 on the FT, and and extra $700 on the mounted tom. Hmm. One would have to wonder
why a bidder (ie dealer) with 2000+ feed backs would continue to run up the other guy after LOSING the bass drum. But that's what they did. But I did note when I checked the completion
of the BD bidding, the 2000+ FB bidder had "won" it. Yet checking it minutes later, they had lost it by $100. It was all sort of strange. Did the under bidder just run up the prices
on the 12 and 14 in spite? There's always the risk you end up with an orphan not worth half of what you paid. Or is a black nitron RB orphan that rare and in-demand?

When I commented to the seller on the potential weird goings on when kits like this are sold in pieces only 5 min apart.....expect odd things to happen. Despite seeing that happen
the first time around.....seller still didn't want to list the complete drum kit on the 2nd go around. The bass drum brought +$1500 more tonight vs last week....with 2 previous high
bidders not participating. You can see the earlier auction results by scrolling down further on the link above. Seller with 11,400+ feed backs and over 30K items sold..... not their first rodeo.

FWIIW: I see alot of bras, panties and socks from this seller's homepage but looking further they have a lot of stuff in general, looks more like a general retailer.

They should stick to bras, socks and panties then.

Yeah, I saw that. But they've had some percussion items like cymbals, stands, etc before. They obviously did "some" research to even figure out
they had a round badge kit.....and that it was worth "thousands." I think their motivation to separate them was that "most people" couldn't afford more
than one drum. They just sold an "in the box" 60's vintage Braun turntable for $3850 on 40 bids with just 2 bidders running it up after $900.
They routinely sell collectible $500-$1000 pairs of sneakers.

From the 14 FT listing:

"I Am Selling 4 Gretsch Drums From This Same Lot On My Ebay Store! These Drums Are Very Old And Desired
So Please Only Bid On Them If You Can Actually Afford To! If You Try To Buy All 4 Drums In This Set It Will
Cost Thousands Of Dollars Considering How Popular These Drums Are! Only Serious Bidders Please!
These Drums Will Be Expensive So Please Only Bid If You Can Actually Pay For Them!"

I've long suspected that sellers like this use throwaway shill accounts to pad the bidding and artificially inflate the value of their items. It's all too convenient that a winner "backs out" on a high value item and then the relisted items sell for even more the next round.

RB prices are already pretty ridiculous as it is and there is a seller on Reverb with even crazier prices than this auction.

How did this exact same set of drums get sold by the same seller twice in 1 week? It all looks like a scam to me.
first sale didn’t go through for whatever reason . They were relisted and sold again. Or maybe not! 7k for the 18 … serious coinage . Nothing else like it though…. That is the farking holy grail

No one is paying 1300 for an 8x12

Indeed. And the 12" was bid up to $2,634 in the first auction last week. The 14" reached $3,487.
Oddly, the bass drum went for $1500 less the 2nd time around. Doubly strange.

Seller claims that the high bidder didn't want to pay for it. Maybe they realized that $12,000 for 3 drums wasn't such a great deal?
They could have realized they got caught up in a bidding war and came to their senses.

These auctions were outrageous......as are these prices! But seriously, it's the buyers who pay $7K for a bass, and those crazy other prices, that are the issue. So long as they're suckers out there who pay those crazy prices, there's going to be people that take these amazing sets and split them just for the sake of money. I'm all for making money, but I am against splitting up old, rare matching kits!

Do they sell their socks also separated instead of pairwise?

What a hassle ...

Looks like they got relisted as a 3-piece, seller says the buyers backed out of payment…no surprise there.

Not sure this link will work, but:

LOL. Who would have guessed? At least the shipping is dropped to $99 for the shell pack this 3rd time around.
Well, this prevents running up the prices on the 12" and 14" toms again. And the matching snare drum stuck at $310 bid.......now permanently separated from the family.

Who was the dealer

Someone with exactly 2,107 feed backs. They were not present in the previous 2 auctions. Search for sellers in the percussion section
and look for someone with 2.1K feedbacks.....exactly 2,107. You have 90 days to find that bidder using the Gretsch Black Nitron kit as your
feedback link. Once it disappears we can't make an exact link any more.

However what was very ODD is that the other bidder with 2,012 feed backs, was present in a big way in all 3 auctions.
Always the under bidder, and always with a very strong bid on the 3 drums. This player was always a bridesmaid.
And despite the prices varying by up thousands of dollars each time, they were never willing to put in a strong enough bid to buy
anything. There prices varied widely. If there was the notion of a ghost bidder only helping to boost the price.....this one has good potential.
