Seems like a strong price for right now. Seller's photos and description were not very detailed. With shipping and sales tax figure around $11,000 all-in to the winning bidder.
Interesting, the seller put these up as singles, not the entire kit. What a mess for bidders. And they did that twice. At least they were in the key order of 18, 14, 12, renown snare
drum when going off. But if you win the bass drum, then lose a later drum, what then? Based on the seller's handling of the listings, I figured the kit would sell for $8K or less.
It seemed like a pretty clean and original kit to me. Seller swapped the original heads which probably hadn't been off for decades.....and didn't bother to take interior shots
of the 12 and 14 toms. Only obvious flaw was a 1-2" piece of missing inlay wrap on one of the BD hoops. Sizes were measured incorrectly.
Oddly, neither of the 2 high bidders even bothered to bid on the snare drum to take it higher than $310. That seems dumb to me. The serial number on the snare was 87xxx
so pretty close to the BD 89xxx. With about 40-45 watchers on these only 2 bidders took the BD above the $3300 level..........running it up to $6600+. That's a thin market.
Imagine if one of those guys didn't show up tonight? Even stranger, these same drums were up for auction a week ago as singles and brought a combined $11,700....with the
winning bidder backing out....so said the seller. The 12 and 14 toms brought over $6K combined first time around....that's a lot imo. Then a more reasonable $3500 tonight.
In that earlier auction the 2 highest bidders did not return for tonight's 2nd go around. But the 3rd highest bidder from last week did return. And they
were the one who ran the eventual higher bidder to an extra $3400 on the BD, an extra $1450 on the FT, and and extra $700 on the mounted tom. Hmm. One would have to wonder
why a bidder (ie dealer) with 2000+ feed backs would continue to run up the other guy after LOSING the bass drum. But that's what they did. But I did note when I checked the completion
of the BD bidding, the 2000+ FB bidder had "won" it. Yet checking it minutes later, they had lost it by $100. It was all sort of strange. Did the under bidder just run up the prices
on the 12 and 14 in spite? There's always the risk you end up with an orphan not worth half of what you paid. Or is a black nitron RB orphan that rare and in-demand?
When I commented to the seller on the potential weird goings on when kits like this are sold in pieces only 5 min apart.....expect odd things to happen. Despite seeing that happen
the first time around.....seller still didn't want to list the complete drum kit on the 2nd go around. The bass drum brought +$1500 more tonight vs last week....with 2 previous high
bidders not participating. You can see the earlier auction results by scrolling down further on the link above. Seller with 11,400+ feed backs and over 30K items sold..... not their first rodeo.
