yes he was the drummer on the whitesnake album that had here i go again on it.

Ansley Dunbar was the drummer on that album, not Tommy. Tommy was hired after that album was recorded and appeared in the videos.

Mike
so that whole line up is pretty much a false advertisement since vivian wasnt playing guitar either.

im sure he breaks cymbals and heads so i guess that means he has bad technique! at least thats what the word on the street is.

?
it seems if you break cymbals and heads most peoples answer to that is you are using wrong or bad technique. im not saying that about tommy, i am just stating what i have read and been told because i am one of them people with the wrong technique i guess.

Tommy, JoJo and Questlove should have a 'fro-off

Ha! How would that be judged, audience applause, or by who can make it look the funkiest while playing? I think JoJo is in 3rd place from the get go. Add Cindy Blackman and JoJo doesn't even make it to metal ceremony. For volume and fullness, looks like Tommy's the winner!

He was a huge influence on me as a 14 year old. He was the reason I went to 2 bass drums. :notworthy:

The "suits and ties" in the room have to be wearing ear plugs. He's not just a hard-hitter, he's a slamming-trash-basher. He puts the praying mantis (Kenny Aronoff with the bug-out goggles) to shame in the volume department.
When you can out slam a guy that needs to wear eye protection, that's saying something.

I like Tommy but the testosterone could be dialed down a tad. I like a good crash as much as the next guy but...I can't imagine that the old businessmen in the room were too impressed. Remind me not to buy any of his autographed gear when it comes up on eBay. :Minnesota_Vikings:

Vivian Campbell was never advertised to play that album. Adrian Vandenberg played on the album along with John Sykes. Cambell did the tour.

Cambell was scrapped for Steve Vai on the next album....

Great rock drummer!! He's still swinging 3S marching sticks too..but he doesn't turn them around anymore. Full output all the time.

Tommy's sticks are Oak 2S... See HERE

I don't doubt he switched...those are even heavier. In fact they are the heaviest stock stick that's made today or yesterday, shy of going into Firth's specialty lines...and even then you'd be hard pressed to find a beefier stick. The whole snare jumps when you hit it. I think the Anton Figg pair is the heaviest at this point, or close to it.

I used to use 3S sticks when I was doing that type of gig in the 70's and they are certainly cymbal breakers...chunks flying all over the place. The 2S is fatter and a little shorter than the 3S. Cozy Powell also used a 2S..traditional grip most of the time. To me even a 2B feels heavy because I've lightened way up over the years. I can't see hurting the equipment. Even Carmine Appice uses what is nothing more than a beefed up double ended 5A so a big sound can be gotten either way. Tommy creams his equipment.

I guess I'll go against the grain. I'm a huge heavy music fan, but that was just ok for me. Good job for a 62 year old man.

I dig Tommy! Great player, cool guy. I've seen him on various tours with different bands but I was fortunate enough to meet him when he was playing with Ted Nugent and they were opening for KISS. Myself and my buddy Ed Kanon (Peter Criss' tech) stood not more than two feet behind Tommy's riser and watched the entire set from there. It was the coolest seat in the house and Tommy just flat tore it up. What's funny is when I met him earlier in the day he was pretty laid back and just a super nice guy. We talked drums, he showed me his kit up close and personal, and even signed a drum head for me. When he took the stage with Nugent later that night, he was like a man possessed and played his heart out. That was a killer band with Marco Mendoza on bass. Great show.

Looks like Promark quit making Bobby Rock's sticks. Even though they were hickory, they were 17.5" long and had a .650" diameter. True bats....

Vater Nightsticks are 17.25" long and .660" diameter

Thats a poor example of his playing, he has much more in the dynamic range than that sample, his claim to fame was his ability to mesmerize with his poundin dbl bass action and was one of the first metal drummers to incorporate trips and quads into the drumming, being a drummer and a huge Pat Travers fan Ive heard it all. Not so much the BOA, but Ozzy and Pat NEVER have anything but the best musicians in their line up, Whitesnake has always been a studio circus except sykes and coverdale.
