paiste top brass were very amenable in those days ( actually still are, but differently))........very open to partying generally. persuasive and friendly. no reason why tony williams wouldnt give them a go ---- a lot of great drummers stayed with paiste. and on the zyn front, dont forget also sam woodyard, and on maybe a slightly different front, robert wyatt in soft machine, chose them as their working cymbals, i'm sure amongst many others. a good , carefully selected super zyn ---as with ufip & zanchi --- really is a top notch cymbal, and at its time probably closer to an old k than anything else available. slightly low volume and buttery. dont be so defensive about your zildjians, and dont forget they originated in turkey ---- ( our side of the pond) .some guys probably brought their own or maybe there was just a pile of cymbals backstage for everyone to choose from. Paiste brothers probably on hand pushing the new 2002s for guys to try out i'd imagine.
