I have sone really crapy Hi Hat Cymbals and am trying to find a decent pair. Guitar center has REALLY EXPENSIVE STUFF, plus they dont make any sense. If i can find a 14' Zildgan Crash for $20 but not any hi hats for under $300;they need to rethink buisniss. Any sugestions?
I'm selling a set of 14" Sabian AA Regular hats for $120 + shipping. PM me if interested. :)

MGR's are great places to get deals on cymbals.

Or else maybe look into some Wuhans...cast and hammered (in China) B-20 cymbals that are typically much better sounding than the B8 beginner cymbals from the majors and are cheaper too.

For example...

There's even a movie there of the cymbals being played although the top cymbal is clamped too tightly in the clutch.

Also remember you don't have to buy "HI-HAT" cymbals... any two cymbals that are (roughly) the same size can be used on a hi-hat stand. They don't have to be "factory matched". Back in olden times (30s to the 60's) a lot of drummers used to pick out their own pairs of hi hats. I've got a pair of 12" Wuhan splashes that I bought at Guitar Center for $15 each and they sound very cool as a small set of hi-hats...better than any ZBT's or B8's (etc.) I've ever heard.

You can get decent sound for reasonably cheap (especially with hi-hats) if you think a bit outside the box.

great idea with the wuhans. they have gotten better as they have expanded
their marketshare.bang for the buck for sure. just put a 12" china on a
stand that i paid 10 bucks for and it sounded great!

Expecting good cymbals for $20 is pretty unrealistic. It can happen, but is not the norm.

I reckon the Zildjian crash you are referring to is one of their entry level cymbals.
Would ZBT be entry level? Im new so dont think im an idiot.
ZBT are Zildjian's lowest level of "useable" cymbals. Planet Zs...just no. If you're going for some budget hi hats, do what everyone else says and search around on ebay for some used quality hi hats. If you wanna buy new, you can't go wrong with Sabian B8s and B8 pro for cymbals on a budget!

If you're still looking... local craigslist today - 3 good sets (sabian, zildjian, dream) all cheap

ZBT are about the same as Sabian B8. They are entry level but you can find some good deals and they sound fine. You don't appear to be looking for pro grade cymbals, which is why I suggest going that route. The more you look, the more you learn, the better deal you can get with time on your side.

Something I like to do with hats is mix n match. No brand bias. just slap a couple of 14" pies together and see how they sound. A lot of the time you can score a set cheap because 1 is cracked. Years ago I played in a heavy/loud original band. For hats I used a New Beat bottom over a Rude bottom. Got a lot of compliements from everyone that played them. Right now my main hats are a UFIP experience top over a New Beat bottom.

My point is don't be afraid to mix stuff up and come up with your own sound. If you don't like how your hats sound pick up a new top.
