I play a classic 4 pc config. Three straight stands, 20 ride, 18 and 16 crash. And hats. I’d like to add a fifth cymbal. something smaller, fast and a bit trashy . Not sure where it could fit naturally. Not sure the Pearl type arm off of one of the straight stands will
Do the trick.

Anybody with suggestions or
Pics?

I like the old style hoop clamp cymbal arms for a small cymbal. The modern Pearl clamp is nice and doesn’t seem to mar the hoop at all

I use same setup. I tried an extension above the ride but it interfered with the stick on the bell. What worked for me was the top sleeve of an L-arm cymbal mount on top of the floor Tom leg for an 8” splash

Thanks, fellers. I like the clamp on the front hoop idea. The boom arm one may be fine also. Depends on how big the cymbal I go with is, I guess.

DW makes a clamp that works like a regular hoop clamp and doesn't mar the hoop at all. You can pair it with any number of aftermarket L-arm cymbal holders (I'm using a Gibraltar). BTW, I have a 17" crash on it and it's solid as a rock.

I've got my effects cymbal above above my first ride which is a 20 inch, over the fourth rack tom.
FYI, My second ride which is a 22 inch is over the floor toms.

I use a mix of Gibraltar and Meinl cymbal stackers to mount a 8“ & 10“ splash on one 6“ bell cymbal on top of my „normal“ cymbals.
That is the cheapest and most lightweight solution I found.

I'd recommend an approach based on your personal preference/ergonomics. Ask yourself where you would naturally hit to get that sound. For me, it would be on the right of the ride cymbal, but this is very individual for everyone. Once you figured that out, check which hardware component would fit best for that placement.

Or in short, let your ergonomics determine your setup and hardware, not the other way around.

I opted for the boom arm off of my left crash cymbal stand. It sits to the right just over my rack tom..I'll try that for now. I've always played a very low, compact set up and never had to move much to hit everything.. New cymbals require me to sit a bit more upright so I can reach quickly if I desire. Thanks for all of the ideas and suggestions.. .

For my main gig, I have an 8” splash just to the right of the hihat on a short boom, multiclamped to the cymbal stand on that side.

I have a 14” FX over the floor tom, multiclamped to the stand on that side. This cymbal can be a crash or a trashier effect, as the tone is somewhere in between.

This rig works well for many applications - cheers!
