Rhys Clark
Is that a Blaemire fiberglass kit he's playing?

I just saw this post today.
I think that Rhys Clark is playing a Blaemire snare that is reflecting green on the backside of the rack toms. Those do look like Blaemire lugs on that snare.

I also looked at the kit Mickey McMeel is playing.
It looks to be a Pearl kit. Pearl had fiberglass drums at the time and the concert toms look to be fiberglass...but the look of the inside appears to be more like Blaemire green than the Pearl yellow/brown look. If this is so, it is interesting that there seems to be Pearl badges on the concert toms.
Good eye BonzoBonham...

I just downloaded a Freddie Hubbard dvd from '79 (off of dimeadozen) and he has a guy named Carl Burnett playing with him. Good Lord Almighty can this dude play. They're playing some way up tempo stuff and he is swinging like a madman throughout.

Paul Hammond who played with Atomic Rooster after Carl Palmer. He had great technique and his oversized Haymans really sang!

nice thread - a lot of my faves mentioned - George Hurley, Rob Ellis, Topper, Barbata...

I'll say
Billy Elliott from the Hollies
DK's D. H. Peligro

,,,& not sure if he is obscure or not, but I rarely see Glen Kotche from Wilco mentioned - phenomenal.

I would like to find out who the drummer was who played with Ted Nugent at a concert in Ocean City, MD in 1971.
He played a very nice solo. This will always remain a mystery.

Most of my favs are probably kind of abscure

Dale Crover - The Melvins
Rick Smith - Torche
J.P. Gaster - Clutch
Des Kensel - High On Fire
Coady Willis - Big Business/The Melvins/Murder City Devils
Jason Roeder - Neurosis

It is indeed a Blaemire kit, acquired when Rhys first went out on tour with Billy in 1971. I recently exchanged some e-mails with Larry Russell, Billy's bass player from 1971-72, and asked him about Rhys's drums. He replied back and said "They are custom, he still has them. Fibre glass type of a shell with Ludwig hardware, hard to define. No bottom rims or lugs I believe.." (from the e-mail).

As for sizes, I would say Hollywood sizes, 12,13,16,22.

Only when he said that they were custom, it immediately led me to believe they were Blaemires. I replied back to Larry about this and he pretty much agreed with me. He is still friends with Rhys and keeps in touch with him.

Norm Villeneuve, Toronto jazz drummer.

He so clearly enjoys every moment behind the kit and is an inspiration.

He`s not really obscure in Canada, but I had to mention him.

Norm having fun, as usual

Trilok Gurtu

And to flip the concept upside down, obscure work by a well known drummer: Phil Collins with Brand X

I always refused to believe it was that phil collins, because of the difference in his later material (which I obviously didn't care for)

Brand X is some real GOOD stuff.

6topher--the Hollies' drummer was Bobby Elliott--the broadway show and film were Billy Elliott.

I listen to lots of musicians (both well known and less well known). In terms of less well known drummers, at present, two have been in my headphones quite a bit:

John Molo - Played with Bruce Hornsby for many years. Extremely versatile and musically sensitive player.
Emmanuelle Caplette - Amazing technical execution and musicality; great groove.

.

I always thought that Ash Soular, Tal Wilkenfield and Emmanuelle Caplette woule make for a hell of a band.
Someone needs to get those 3 together.

...and has anyone mentioned Jerry Shirley yet?
Maybe not obscure enough?
