Thanks for that.
I don't have any experience with K Cons so it would be interesting to compare my modded cymbal to one.
Do you think its similar in sound now to a similar weighted K con ?
I'll have to check your sound file again, but I'm gonna say not quite. But I'm basing mine on mostly Renaissance and bounce rides, which definitely skew to the smoother sound of things and not quite as trashy

My pleasure! Many beyond myself have noted that the K Dark Medium is essentially a K Con by another name, albeit heavier than any other K Con. The hammering and lathing style are very similar. As far as sounding like other K Cons, yours seems to have more stick definition and less sustain, but the complexity in the wash and that slightly trashy sound certainly remind me a bit of a few models, the Renaissance and Bounce Overhammered prototype.

Should also mention, I hoped the mod would make the cymbal more versatile for Jazz and quieter types of music and I feel the weight loss has brought me closer to that.
Then I think you achieved that with the mod. The original one can do anything in my opinion, jazz to rock and anything in between, it has an amazing dynamic range but it’s not a complex sounding jazz ride.

No not my main ride, I would only ever use it for outdoor gigs in large spaces which are few and far between.

For 70% of gigs i use a Paiste ME 20" or 20" Trad medium, weddings, pub gigs, venues, pop, singer/songwriter, blues, rock, middle of the road stuff,

For jazzy settings using a Lauritsen 20", Funch 22" and both a 20 & 22 sabian AA raw rides which are both light. The Lauritsen is proving itself to very versatile and getting used whenever I can use it as it just sounds so good and is inspiring to play.
Funny, I've been on the fence about a 20 ME. someone here is selling one, but I'm trying to go through everything I own to make sure how I feel about it.

The original weight played beautifully. Perfect cutting stick, and a warm dark crash. No harshness or gonginess.
Played more like a lighter medium imo....around 2500 gm when comparing to old K's or old A's. You can hear
some of the nice complexity, and "tinny taah" sound when played lightly.

The lightened version sounds pretty much like an Old Stamp K Istanbul type 2a to me....very tinny "taah" sound to it.
If I heard that w/o knowing what it was I would guess it was an old Stamp K Istanbul type 2/3 tribute cymbal by Funch, Bourgis, Janicke,
Lauritsen, Nolan, etc. or one of the other top makers. Guess Collingwood gets a plug here. Thing is, they rarely seem to get them any
better than yours. And it's the "sound" so many are trying to clone. And you did it sort of by accident. Should be a great small ensemble
jazz ride cymbal for you.

I think I liked the "before" version better. It's still very nice when lighter.

A K Custom Dark 20” at 2262 g is my main ride for all gigs - big band and small combo. It doesn’t crash all that well, but I find most of my other 20-22” rides (A Sweet, Dream Bliss, Agop Jazz, Mongiello, Paiste Bluebird, and a few boutique makers) too washy. I use pretty light sticks for everything (Bop Works West Coast), so that makes a difference, too.
