I just took in an early 90's (I think) 22" Pre-Aged Dry Light on trade, and I'm floored. Without a doubt one of the nicest sounding modern Zildjians I've ever heard.

Moderate amount of bow, largish bell, nice weight at just over 2300 grams. Has a "tock"-ish stick sound over a complex dark wash. I could see the wash getting out of control if the player was heavy handed, but with the right touch this baby just sounds amazing.

I usually take in trades just to flip them, and I'm prettymuch a confirmed Bosphorus guy, but this one might see some stand time.

Anyone else played these? I don't think they made them for more than a couple of years.

I've got a 20". It is my go-to ride. Great ride sound and a wonderful crash when you want it. I'd like to get a 22 or an 18 someday but the word seems to be out on these and they usually sell for high prices.

Here's a good sample of mine in action....

Those rides were originally designed to emulate paper thin Avedis rides of the 50s & 60s (before they introduced the popular Armand line)

I had a mint condition 20 that I sold to a fellow forumite about 4 years ago.
Think I took 150 bucks for it.
That was one responsive and washy mutha! ... superb for brush playing and all 'round shouldercrashability

I was playing loud blues & bar rock then, so any subtle nuance it had just disappeared into a Ringo-esque wash in a live setting. No definition. Totally the wrong ride for that scenario.

Kinda wish I had it for the playing I do now, but I own a couple thin old Avedis rides that very closely resemble that Pre-Aged Dry Light sound and I actually prefer their mojo better anyway.

I know Blueshadow favors the PADL rides and has owned a few as well.

That's interesting. Where did you get that info? I remember reading about these when they were just introduced and everything that was said about them was "old K old K old K." To my ear this one is definitely in the ballpark, too.

Maybe I should put up a sound file...

If I recall correctly, that was a (paraphrased) excerpt from Zildjian's marketing schpeel when introducing the Pre-Aged Dry Light Rides years ago.

And I can tell you this...

The 20" PADLR I owned was not "old K like" in the least, and in my experience nothing truly sounds or plays like a genuine Turkish K. except for a genuine Turkish K.

I have an 18" Pre-Aged Dry Light Ride with two factory-rivets as a left-side ride, and it's deee-friggin-licious. It's the one cymbal I own that I can't imagine ever selling, since there's really nothing else I've found that's quite like this sound.

Hey man, I've got a whole Bosphorus Traditional series set up if you wanna trade some stuff. Talk to me.

I have recently become a big fan of these rides. I played an 18" at my local shop back in the mid 90's and loved it , great crash ride. They had it in a blowout bin for $99! For some reason I didn't buy it that day and came back a week later to buy it and one of the employees bought it .

I recently picked up a 22" and a 20" and I am really digging them. The 22" is in mint condition, nary a stick mark. It has three rivets in from the edge about three inches instead of the usual inch and a half or so. This is going to be my Jazz trio/Quartet ride . It will be a great ride for brushes. The crash is really nice and the bell is big and cutting. The 20" I picked up on EBay and the prior owner tried washing it and it looks odd, but sounds great. Good stick definition, nice bell and crashable.

These have become a cult fave among drummers that are familiar with them and have become pretty hard to find and expensive when you do find one. I am glad I have found mine, now if I could only find the matching 18".......

If anyone from Zildjian is reading.... you need to make these again. Still miss my 20 not sure why the hell I sold it, but will get another and someday the 22. Closest thing I hear from Zildjian right now is the K Dark Custom and K lights.

My 20" pre-aged etc is the one I use the most. I bought it when I was doing a lot of country and was looking for something and found it instead. I was lucky. Great cymbal with character and a voice that works in a lot of venues.

Owned a 20" and still own an 18". My modern 20" padl (manufactured 2007 if I remember correctly), at a little over 2000 grams, sounded a bit heavy and pingy for a "light" K. Just about the same amount of ping and body as my modern regular K. But it's a nice ride. Just not how I thought it would sound given its name. The 18's a different story. Very complex and washy. Sounds just about how I think turkish rides would sound. Excellent dark crash sound. Heard samples of 22s...semblance with the sound signature of my 18 is definitely there

I have a very special FIRST production that is light and has tons of hammering and a HUGE bell. I had 6 Preaged Ks from 18-22" this one smokes! Holy Grail for sure! Id let her go for 350- to me it is not replaceable. The bell is amazing , the crash is fast full and lush, the ride has a lot of air and semi trashy but it is warm and sparkly...It doesn't not need rivets but sounds like it has them.

20 or 22? Not that it matters too much since I have no money right now :)
