K Con 22" bounce ride--obviously way too trashy, big sounding, and difficult to control. This one definitely goes to 11. It's just so loud, complex and in-your-face that I find it unusable for most music. You have to REALLY baby it or it washes out everything in its path. I think it would take a big band with a loud horn section to compete with this cymbal. And perhaps in that situation, it would really shine.
K Con 20" medium ride--my favorite K con ride by far. Complex but with a good fundamental tone and great stick definition, not too washy. Easy to control. A real swiss army knife of a cymbal. If you don't think you like K con rides, try this one.
K Con 16" crash--weird cymbal. I have to really crash it to make it sound good, otherwise, it just sounds boxy. The decay is too fast. Anyone else feel like this? I noticed that the 18" crash has a larger bell and all the rest of them have this tiny little bell. The 16" sounds "pretty good" if I don't think too much and just hit it hard. Not really the style I expect from a K Con. It almost plays like a splash cymbal. I would've preferred something I could hit with the tip of my stick a bit more. Maybe a little more meat and sustain. It's like it's there and gone in a flash.
K Con 14" hats--beautiful, not a single complaint. These are some of the best sounding hats I've ever played. I fully recommend these.
A Avedis 21" ride--shimmering, crystal clear definition, higher pitch than you'd guess by look and feel. Best bell of any ride I've played, absolutely a blast to play around with the bell. The mid-cymbal stick definition is awesome but I feel like the tone is a bit thin. Reminds me of the ride on "Evil Ways".
A Avedis 14" hats--I was not super impressed with these, but I think they might grow on me. I just don't hear a whole lot of tone from them. Maybe that's the purpose (they do have a good chik-chik sound). I think they'd fit in well in an all electric band. But if you are looking for "musicality" in a hi-hat these are not for you. I would love to hear some different opinions as maybe I'm judging too harshly.
