What do you guys suggest for hi hats if I'm looking for something that would work for jazz and some rock in the $150.00 range or lower. New or old, I don't care which. I'm just trying to get some ideas.

60s New Beats work well. If you had more to spend - or get lucky and happen upon a good deal - 14" Armand hats are perfect for both genres.

I have heard you say that before, about regretting selling. I enjoy those too but for the rock pop/rock that I do, Agops are for me.

Agops apparently work well for jazz too considering how popular they are among jazz drummers. There was a trashy quality to them that I didn't like. Still, damn fine cymbals and pretty versatile ones at that.

Ummm...shameless plug:

Someone said New Beats, these are New Beats that say Sabian. ;)

That is an awesome deal and I was looking at some of those new too. (New I can't afford)
Ack....I'm still paying on my drumset, so I couldn't even afford these right now.
I'll just hope that you have something this good around December, hehe.

I use Istanbul Agop Mel Lewis 13 inch hats and they will work for both.See them on EBay occasionally.

While they may differ from set to set, I have a set of A Mastersounds that are really cutting it up nice (and not my fingers) and don't think I'd trade them for any hats out there. Try some out, I think you'll dig em!

New Beats and Sabian AA's can both be had for less than $100 if you have the patience; and if not, certainly well under $150. I paid $107.00 for 14" New Beats and scored a set of Sabian AA Regular hats for $61.00.

I've owned a pair of Sabian AA regular hats just like those, that is a good deal and probably sound great for what you're after. They work well for jazz, blues, rock, anything. And you'd have $50 left over for whatever.

i picked up a pair of Zildjian k custom hi def hats (new) for 180 on ebay.
They seem to work well across the board for me.

Of course your really lovely super light hats wouldn't work for rock (like we would all hope.)

I have both Gadd K Custom Sessions w Top 13 15/16" & 14" K Custom med/thin Bottom and a pair of Armand 14" and I like them both the Sessions are louder but very controllable.
The Armands are more in your price range used. I paid $100.00 for my Armands used.
Good Luck with you hunt! :p
