I've had this cymbal for a while and was curious. Were these "mini cup" sizzle rides popular? Also, it looks like 2 cymbals in one: the lathing changes dramatically from the center up to the bell. The pic doesn't show it too well.

what size and weight is that one? it sure looks tasty!

wow. wish i wouldnt have asked! thats exactly how it looks. let us know the weight so we can drool some.

to answer your original question though. no. i have not seen to many mini cups from the 50s.

Most mini-cups you see these days are from the 70's-80's and heavy.

A thin one from the 50's is pretty rare. She's a keeper.

^This! I had a mini cup ride that was nice but on the heavy side -- similar to a ping ride. I wasn't into the sound at all. Too controlled and one dimensional. Doesn't sound like yours is that way -- I bet that thing sings. Congrats!

Check this link, looks like Shelly Manne played one:

I bet that's a really nice cymbal! Be interested in the weight...

Very cool cymbal. Lightweight, eh? That is very rare. I have never seen one, only the late 60s and early 70s Mini Cup Rides that are pretty much ping-weight or heavier. Definitely would like to hear a sound file of it? Do you know where or who it came from? Thanks for sharing..

Really? I didn't realize I had a rarity. I bought it at Ace Music in Miami like over 20 years ago. Amazingly, I've never weighed it. I will try to weigh it today. I'll be posting that with along with a sound file.

She's 1952g and sounds like:

Sell it to me! SELL ME YOUR CHILDREN....HAHAHAHAHA

What a great Shelly Manne clip - one of my favorite drummers of all time.
