Hadn’t heard of them, although note it’s Lius.

from Sweden, can't find a website with any kind of price info.. if any locals get a chance to try them out, let us know!

Anyone ever heard of (or played) Lius cymbals? The youtube algorithm served me up this video, and I think this ride sounds gorgeous. Another independent on the scene!

Wow ! I dig it ! Can't find a website , though .

Oh cool, sometimes YouTube gives happy surprises.

Yeah, I'm lucky to been able to test few Lius cymbals live and at the same time compared then with my Funch collection.
I know David Lius personally since he's a fellow cymbal nerd and we both live in Stockholm.

I'm happy to report that I have been really impressed with his cymbals! I really wouldn't say this publicly, if I had been underwhelmed. Even if I know him personally, I also want to be loyal to drumming community. :D

I've done 2 test sessions, tested about 3-4 20" rides, 3-4 22" rides plus 3 pairs of hats. On the first session I tested this 20" that was really fantastic (it was overhammered one), and I would have bought it if I had finances then. The following 20"s have been really good too, but I'm waiting him to make similar than the first and I'm definitely going to buy it.

22"s have been also impressive, and they really held their ground against my 22" Funches. Similar kind of strong stick definition.
And really good bells on pretty much all of the rides, which was surprising, since it's not that common among handmade cymbals.

The 22" on the video was probably the best of them, and David was really pleased about it as well.
I think David was planning to put it on display to local drum shop to get some local interest going. Sounded like wise move.

There was 14" hats too that I would have loved to own, but I have too much hats anyways..

He started making cymbals quite recently, but cymbals felt suprisingly "ready", really beautifully made, also beautiful to look at, I didn't notice any hiccups/weirdness of any kind.
He's aiming to do relatively "clean", not very "weird" cymbals. Not that there shouldn't be character, darkness or smokiness, but rather so that he's avoiding making very trashy/superthin cymbals, as some custom maker does especially in the beginning of their career. He's a drummer, and he wants to make cymbals that work on gigs, not only on rehearsal room.

I think he's sold most of he's made them pretty fast, and I don't see why not.

I think he's really talented, and we're going to hear much more of Lius.

Thank you for sharing your perspective and experience. That’s all great to hear. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on his channels and hope to have a chance to hear them in person someday soon.

Couple of pics from the first test session.
The first is the 20" that really did it for me.

Got to test 4 new 20" rides today.
Result was 1 good, 1 great, 2 fantastic.

Was really connecting with the one on far right/ only one on the lower picture. 1967 grams of pure pleasure, had to buy it.
Not too dark, not too bright, versatile but not vanilla. Great stick, really good bell, very nice crash even though the wash stayed really well in control when riding. It seems to accept different sticks really well, which is not so common. The attack sound naturally changed but seemed to work with any stick, even with 5B, which I tried thinking no way this is going to sound good. That's a great bonus, like having multiple cymbals in one.

There was also this fantastic 1890 gr with patina that had wonderfully dry (but not turk dry) smokey character. Would be extremely nice cymbal for but lower volume gigs. Had great bell too.
Second from left.
Would have bought it too, if finances allowed it.

Pretty competitive pricing still.
About 550$ for 20" and 650$ for 22", and free worldwide shipping to celebrate the opening of the website.
Yes . One of those 21s is very tempting and I've been in touch with David about it .

Hello, new cymbals online. Baught a 22 in November, beautiful, today the 20 with handhammered bell. Prices have increased. Tom

That 20" you bought had a hand formed bell and not hand hammered , right ? One I saw as SOLD said hand formed . There's a difference .
