Has anyone tried out a Meinl Sand Ride? Benny Greb helped design it.. The sound files I've heard sound great... I'm thinking of trying one out. But before I drive three hours to hear one, I was wondering if anyone here could give some insight.

I listened to the video of this ride with Benny Greb and heard him in a clinic with his and the cymbal really interested me.
The one I was able to try at one of my local shops was quite different sounding- it was gongy and wasn't as dry as Benny's. The Bell was really nice though. The one i tried wasn't as crashable as benny's either.I really advise you to try one in person before buying one.

Didn't we already have this thread??

I have a weird sense of deja vu...

Anyway, I've tried one in a store and I liked it a lot.

Is that you, Rod Serling?

Old Thread

Sorry all. I did a search for Sand Ride and Meinl and got nothing the first time. My bad. I only have a few minutes to read on here everyday, so I don't see everything that comes across.

I own one.
Liked what I heard in the sound file.
From behind the set I'm not fond of the it.
My band-mates tell me that, in front, it sounds great.
They prefer I use it rather than any of my Zildjians.

If I were you, snuffyny, get one of your bandmates to "play it" (even if it's just tapping" while you stand out front and listen. Drums and cymbals sound very different from behind the kit. I don't particularly dig my 16" Heavy crash and how the sound mixes with my ride when crashed (the pitches sound way too similar) but today I moved it to my right and it literally sounds completely different! Sounds really good when other people are playing my kit as well.
