Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum and was hoping I could get some helpful feedback! I have an audition coming up and I was just informed that I need to have a snare solo prepared. It's been years since I've played a solo and even then they were easy to come across since I was in schoo. I need to find one and play it by 7-9-11 and I'm working out of town till 7-8-11 at around midnight. Needless to say I'm in a pickle. I'm not too worried, though. Anyone know where I can find a free solo online to go over while I'm out of town?

Hello PaulAnthony. Welcome to the forum. Wish I had advice on a snare solo. All I ever did was pick from books when I was studying and mostly did tympani solos at that.... Still, this is a great place to glean advice. Enjoy!

Hello and welcome to the forums from just up the road!

I'm not sure what type of solo you're looking for, more traditional or modern corps style, but here are some that might help. I found all of them through google searches myself and there are plenty more to be found out there.

Crazy Army - http://www.westpoint.edu/band/fm/Crazy-Army.pdf

Drums Along The Potomac - http://vvfdc.org/Sheet%20Music/Snare/Drums%20Along%20The%20Potomac.pdf

Dyumpta Tiompta - http://www.westpoint.edu/band/files/Dyompta.pdf

Spare Time - http://www.westpoint.edu/band/files/Spare%20Time.pdf

A cool website to check out for some more stuff and videos is the Westpoint Band's. http://www.westpoint.edu/band/fm/about.htm

Hope something here can help you out or steer you in the right path.

Thanks yall for the welcome and kind words! @Clay I'm definitely going to check out those sites today and I didn't think I'd meet someone so close to home!

Let me know how they work out for you. If I dig around, I might be able to find more stuff if needed.

As for close to home, I know of at least one other forum member from SA, a few in the Austin, DFW, and East Texas areas, and a few others from around the state. We are fairly well represented. :)

What kind of audition are you going for that requires a snare solo? Regardless of what kind it is, good luck with it! Again, welcome to the forums. There are some of the best people you'll ever meet here and a wealth of knowledge being shared. Enjoy!

Thanks again man, it was really a big help. I'm going to shoot for "Spare Time" because quite honestly that's the one I feel most confident with. It's been about 8 years since I've had to play a solo much less read anything! I don't feel too well admitting that but it's the truth! I found another paradiddle exercise that I'll have in my back pocket that's way easier but better to have more than one piece prepared. I'm glad this forum is already getting me back to work!

It's a production concert that I heard about online. I've never done anything like it but it sounded like fun and I'm up for a new adventure! (Granted I make the cut!)

Do you play out around SA or anything?
