Just got this bad boy two weeks ago in the mail, haven't gotten around to getting angles right and setting up perfect, but it's a gretsch new classic 22/10/12/14 in silver metallic scooped it up by putting it on layaway (extra 100 bucks) said and done it came out to 1,139 dollars. A total steal!!! I also have a 6 PC cat maple.

Which of the Stave's do you like better?
They both are real nice. I'm not unloading either one for now. But if I was on a deserted island? Oak.

I currently have a later 1970s Drop G SSB kit
bought the 13,16 and 24 for $800 and then added a 14 to it which had same badge and mount.
all i need is 14 and 18 floor toms , and i'd have the Tony Williams config

just amazing drums. the range these have is huge. Tune em high, tune em low.
I love the feel and bark from the DieCast hoops on the toms as well.

before i found the SSB on local craigslist i had one of the old Catalina Birch kits
Nice sounding kit. this was the only kit i ever bought brand new

Does the Catalina line count? Here's my 24/12/16 kit in ruby red oyster. It's such a fun kit to play and I'm pleasantly surprised with the quality and sound, for a low-mid level set, plus I don't worry about dings as much as if it was a New Classic or USA Custom, although I'd still love to own one of those. This is when we played a community stage at the AZ state fair.

I have owned more Gretsch kits (6) than any other brand of drum, my first professional kit was a Gretsch natural maple gloss lacquer kit I bought new around 1978. Gretsch has a sound and feel that I really like.
My current pictured kit came with the 302 hoops and while it sounded ok, I loved the kit once I swapped the hoops out for Gretsch Diecast hoops. The combination of the thin unreinforced maple/gum shells, silver sealer and diecast hoops is unique (DW Jazz series are very close) and a sound that really strikes a chord with me.

The Steve Maxwell exclusive Espresso Burst wrap is stunning in person, and I knew I had to get a kit once I saw this finish. I had been quoting on a satin nitro Caribbean Blue Gretsch kit when the opportunity to purchase this came up. I think I made the right decision.

Gretsch bass drums are just magic to me, don't know why but every Gretsch kit I have ever played had an outstanding sounding bass drum. The snares I am not as big a fan, but I do have the matching 6.5 snare sounding good now with a Fiberskyn FA batter.

My current gigging machine for the small rooms we play. Motor City Blue 18-12-14 bop kit with the addition of a matching 10" tom. So, now it's a 5 piece and I call it my "bop 'n roll" kit. :)
