Drove to Rhode Island today for a French cuisine tasting based around cookies, ended up having the single best warm lobster roll I ever had in my life!

So my question is simple, actually two questions :)

A true lobster roll, do you prefer it warm or cold or not at all?

Also which state has provided the best one you have ever tasted?

I was floored today! And I’ve had tremendous ones in the past.

Love when that happens.

I had one of the best lobster rolls ever the other day at Noman’s here on Martha’s Vineyard.

I prefer cold.

I live in a coastal town in Massachusetts and there are several places to get a great lobster roll, but I think Maine wins.

Congrats to you on your delicious lobster roll! :)

I just had a lobster roll last night, but it was just an average one, nothing special.

However the best one I've had was years ago in downtown Long Beach, CA of all places. It was warm and buttery, with scallions, bacon bits and tomatoes—absolutely fabulous! And better than anything I've had in Boston. Sadly that restaurant is no more, one of countless victims of the pandemic.

We just lost most of our EBT funding.
My Wife’s social security put us over the cut off. So my quest for the best lobster roll will not happen. I don’t eat animals anyway. Wonder what the French’s take on lobster rolls would be. When you go to France again a new culinary adventure awaits you.

Had good ones in NH last fall. One place, it was $40, but had just as good at another joint for $32.95.

I prefer them cold.

Like Little Feat used to say, "Cold, Cold, Cold."

The only thing that should be warm on a Lobster Roll is a little butter, and MAYBE a slightly toasted (on the inside) roll. PERIOD!

I used to have a summer house in Hope, Maine. And the Lincolnville Lobster Pound (a little further North,) had a GREAT Lobster Roll. Cappy's, in Camden had a good one. Also had one a few years back from a food truck in Union (I think?) that was pretty amazing.

I would like to say that I found an even "OK" Lobster Roll in Cape May, NJ (my wife's happy place) but no such luck, and we've tried... But the scallops, bluefish spread (!!!) and baked mac and cheese with lobster at Mayer's was a VERY good substitute.

Cold, Cold, Cold!!!

Absolutely LOVE the reply’s!!

Thanks guys , you all always make me feel so welcomed and want to be part of this wonderful place , by allowing all my “silly” threads to have some kind of meaningful “message”.

The message here is - food rules!

NJ has two of the very best I have ever tried.

Cape Cod has 1 of the most amazing I have ever had.

Maine always the top dog for me!

Cold > warm no doubt.

All of the above changed last night, Rhode Island took the cake, wasn’t even close, and it wasn’t even cold. I still haven’t gotten off of my feet it swept me so hard!

FOOTNOTE - I had not eaten in 107 hours prior to that bite :)

If I went 107 minutes without eating a pop tart on the sidewalk in the tenderloin district of San Francisco would look very appetizing. So glad I don’t live in that toilet anymore.

When was in Maine a few years ago, I was surprised to see that McDonalds had a lobster roll on the menu, appropriately called "the McLobster." I didn't dare go for it, preferring instead to get one at a moment and pop restaurant on the coast.

Yep...Maine hands down.
Grew up in NH but my family all lives in mid-coast ME now (I'm in CO). Got back from a visit to ME a couple weeks ago. While we were there, we literally drove down the street to the neighbor's who is a lobsterman and bought 5 lobsters right off his boat for ~$60 for homemade fresh lobster rolls. Nobody makes LRs like my mother...nobody...a true Mainer. Always cold with no weird 'toppings' and NEVER any mayo. Not to mention, she makes 'em with a whole lobster in the hot dog bun.
Don't even get me started on Whoopie Pies!!!

Micky D’s in Hawaii had them too. I also had one in Vegas from a small vendor at the end of the strip.

I’m the only one in my family that eats any kinds of seafood. I take my opportunities when I see them. Of course I had to try the McLobster….

On of my bucket list items is to do a seafood tour of the upper East Coast. Luckily my wife wants to see New York so I have an excuse to get her in the neighborhood.

We travel a bit so maybe a week in and about NY and a week being a glutton along the eastern seaboard.

Hmmm… (honey, how many airline points do have?)

Never had an east coast one but I had a few mini ones at a foodie event a few weeks back. They were super addictive and served cold.......
I also love lobster tails and broil them at home with seasoning, garlic powder, chopped garlic, garlic salt, pepper, olive oil, butter and lemon, and dipping in clarified butter....oh yeah!

I have ate a lot of Libster rolls on my vacations in Ogunquit Maine . The Oarweed Restaurant has a particularly good cold version . Always lots of lobster .

In Kennebunkport the Maine Diner has my favourite hot lobster roll they call the Jim Nance . It is truly delicious and they serve it with warm melted butter for dipping .

can't get them here in Texas, so whenever I go back to New England I gobble them up. I prefer cold, tiny dab of mayo, although an occasional Connecticut style is good too

There was a restaurant in Oguinquit Maine that had lobster pancakes on the menu. Our waitress said that only 2 customers had ordered them during her many years working there.
