Recently picked up Classic Oak Fab kit.
Fantastic drums.

I noticed this kit has 1.7mm triple flange hoops on them, not as 2.3mm triple flange, which I thought it was standard on Classic Series kit (new Classic Maple I also got last year had 2.3mm hoops on them)
Previous owner did not swap the hoops.

Do they originally come with 1.7mm on them, then changed to 2.3mm later? Anyone with Classic Oak confirm which hoops the kit shipped with?

Thanks.

AFAIK, they've always come with 2.3mm hoops. The previous "Keystone" / "Keystone X" series are what eventually became the Classic Oak, and those both had 2.3mm hoops as well.

I don't have my Classic Oak kit here right now (they're in storage), but next time I have them out I'll put a set of calipers on them. I never noticed them being anything other than the standard 2.3mm, but I also haven't been explicitly checking. Mine are from the Revival "Revette" offering, which is using all lightweight hardware (no tom mounts, 9.5mm floor tom legs, 9.5mm gull-wing spurs), so if any kit would come with 1.6mm, I'd think it'd be this one :)

Looking at the Excel configurator -- there's not even an option for lightweight hoops.

Got it.
I strongly suspect somewhere along the hoops were swapped for thinner ones. Ill check with seller again.

But I do think it should come with 2.3mm since mine is modern, non-Revette, all the other mounts are standard Atlas.

I do like 1.7mm in a way but surely prefer having everything original.

Well the 1.7’s came from same factory as the “original” 2.3’s. If you like the 1.7’s and can use it as bargaining “well they’re not all original” then might be a good deal

I dont have ways to authenticate whether these hoops were original from the factory or not. Seller said he didn’t change it out after buying new from retail shop.

Not sure what you mean by bargaining, i already got the kit and found out later about the thinner hoops.

Just wanted to rule out possibilities. Guess it will stay as mystery.

If anyone wants pair of 1.6mm (is it 1.7 or 1.8??) triple flange hoops for 13 and 16, hit me up. I will most likely change them to 2.3mm or 302 hoops.

I'm not aware of any 1.7mm hoops, only 1.6mm. That being said, I would think that the original hoops for the Oak series would have been 2.3mm hoops.

On their latest custom order guide, there is no option for different hoops on the toms. I'm not sure about their previous custom order guides.

Seems definitely previous owner(s) swapped them out. I reached out to seller, who had told he bought at retail as new, but then he says later he got this from “a guy bought these new” 6 month before lol. Why can’t they just be honest in the first place?

There is no way I could find any source where Ludwig providing these model with 1.6mm hoops, with current Atlas HW as standard option.

Thanks everyone for chiming in. Case closed.

Gotcha sorry I didn't read the part that you already had the kit....enjoy them!

I've never seen hoops as an option and I've been looking at the order guide for years. Ordered a custom bass drum in 2009, floor tom in 2011 and full kit this year at no time have I seen the thinner hoops as an option. Doesn't rule out that they might have gotten an order of thinner hoops and used them. My 1993 snare has taller than normal hoops. When I asked the plant manager about them he said they had a weird order of them back then from the supplier and had to match them up top and bottom to make sure they had the taller hoops together on the same snare. I actually love those hoops.
