I am a huge Floyd fan. My husband, Eric broke the sad news to me today. I had to take a moment to cry and say a small prayer. I haven't had to sit down for news like that in a while. I got to see them live twice....I love their music; to me it's timeless. I hope there is a groovy, psychedelic band in heaven that needs a killer keyboard player. RIP Richard, you will be sadly missed. ~Kat

Very sad news indeed. I saw them on the momentary lapse of reason and division bell tours. Richard always had a great sound and I think his vocal harmonies are often overlooked as well. R.I.P. :(

Echoes Funky Dung Fearless Chilhoods End . These tunes had me transfixed as a youngster. They say this life can end.RIP Rick Wright.

When I saw PF the first instrument heard was Wright's minimalist intro to "Echoes".

I saw PF on March 8,1973.
They opened with "Echoes" followed by "Set the Controls for the Heart of The Sun","Careful With That Axe,Eugene" and another tune I can not remember.
Then a 20 minute intermission.
Early into the intermission I could hear very faintly a "thump-thump...thump -thump" sound in the now demolished U.C. Fieldhouse.I thought it was people stomping their feet high up in the bleachers. With a minute or so left in the break, that "thump-thump" had grown quite loud. The thumping was the beginning of the 2nd half of the show. The hall lights went dark and Pink Floyd was back onstage launching into music no one in the crowd had ever heard before.
It was "Dark Side Of the Moon" debuting LIVE in it's entirety by PF.

Old K;
I saw the same tour at Kent State Memorial Gymnasium. Amazing. To this day I'm proud to say that the first time I heard DSOTM it was LIVE!
That was also the first time I saw lasers and fog live on stage.
Mind blowing.
I just read Nick Mason's autobiography "Pink Floyd; Inside Out." It's a good read; Nick is very articulate and has a dry wit.
"In The Flesh" was playing on iTunes when I learned the news from this thread just now...
Bummer.

RIP Rick Wright.

Frank-This show ranks as number 1 on my rock concert list.
I had floor seats half way back on the basketball court(covered of course).Price:$4.50
Gilmour and Waters were wearing black T-shirts just like the poster inside DSOTM.
You're right about the visual special effects. It was miles ahead of anything seen at the time.

The clocks ticking and then going off in Quad sound was pretty mind-blowing if you'll recall.
I'm pretty sure the first time I heard Roto-Toms was when Nick then began "Time".
The encore was "One Of These Days".

RIP Rick.

Wow... that really is too bad. Pretty young too. I've always been most into the earliest of the Floyd stuff, but I like all of it pre-Wall. A lot of Wright's stuff were things that you barely notived, but really added to the atmosphere of the music and I really like that approach to the keyboards, especially in the realm of rock music.

He will be missed...

Old K; Same show exactly. Probably only a night apart. Same kind of venue -- a basketball court. I was on the floor as well. Heck, it wasn't even sold out! The quad (well QUINT actually - left/right, mid-way back lef/right, and rear) system was mind-blowing too.

Firsts: Roto toms, lasers, fog, explosions, quint -sound, tape recorded effects, and heck DSOTM itself!
I was only 16 and I'll never forget it.

I saw them again about 6 months later at Blossom Music center, and outdoor amphitheater. By then, they and the album were huge. Same show, but they had backup vocals and sax this time around.

Read "Inside Out" by Nck Mason. If you're a fan, it's worth it.
