Me neither... I genuinely thought I'd get like 3 answers of guys sayin "we all put it in the same place" and then put it to rest. But here we are, 120 posts deep and with many many of 'em extremely thourough analysis of the how and why. How this thread is still going is beyond me, but I still enjoy reading and sort of begin to wonder if it will go on forever like the "office pics" one or the "what are you listenning to?"... Not that I think it should, but seeing how far it has gotten.

I wanna rival the "McRib" thread!

I'd forgotten about that one, all I remember was seeing the post count and going "mmm I wonder if McRibs is a joke I don't get?" then reading the OP aaaaand nope. 'Twas about McRibs. That's as far as I dove into it. I don't think snare placement can generate as much passion as junk food though...

Yep same experience.

Wow, imagine what kind of attention a GOOD fast food sandwich might bring!

You're probably right though. Throwoff position doesn't stand a chance.

I keep the throwoff at noon...cuz that's when I eat my MCRIB every day!

I must admit that this thread had me re-evaluate my snare placement and in full disclosure, since my OP I've rotated the throw-off counter clockwise to 7:30-8 instead of the usual 9 and I took time to rotate the head logos accordingly so that they remain at 12.

And it was the most exciting thing that happened at home for the whole of last week. Dang! it is more than time the gigs come back...

It depends on the throw style. If the latch throws perpendicular then 6. If the latch throws away from the drum then 3.

well u don't always always always...
some drums you like/want it there..the other drum you like it up there... six o'clock sometimes another drum 11 o'clock..
and I must remind Gretsch (real ones) 60s RB Renown for example are made to be thrown (placed..) on and off with a stick so 11 'o clock works

About where I keep mine...10/11 o'clock

No, it wasn't sarcasm.
Ya man it was just bad corny internet humour. The joke is that i was implying the OP should give in to peer pressure and just keep the throw at 9 since it appears that that is what most of the group does. Ofcourse i dont condone pressuring anybody to do anything they dont want to do. The absurdity of my comment is the joke.

There has been some confusion here, Michael. poco rit was using sarcasm when he spoke of "conforming", he's not saying that you were ever sarcastic.

Don't worry poco rit! You're not corny! I thought it was clear you were being facetious. :glasses8:

Of course I took it as such.... ;)

Sorry I'm having serious inner ear problems. Been up for about 5 days.

Sorry man, really tired, really sick, been up for days. Never mind me.

Always used to have it at 3, then tried 6 and 9 and went back to 3. I like being able to easily adjust tension (especially on the finicky P85s on a lot of my snares, they tend to loosen themselves a bit) and have not really needed to do do anything that requires right-hand dexterity while simultaneously using the throw. 9 o’clock makes quick tension knob adjustment difficult for me. 6 gets in the way when playing more of a French grip and puts the butt end in the tom rash danger zone.

It's at 11 o'clock, on the snare I'm playing now. Partly because my left hand is right there and can flip it off when I want to go bongo.

And partly because the vent hole is right at my calf leg and I can feel every hit.

Don't judge me.

Been tilting the snare away from me more and more since I play it maybe lower than some but I can't get a good rimshot off when my leg is in the way and if that whiff of hit isn't on my calf... what I'm gonna do?

All is lost.

:p
