I was truly shocked when I read your OP, Steve. You have shared so much about your love and passion for George Way drums over the years, and many of the drums that you have lost are ones that have helped me (and no doubt others) learn to appreciate them. As you say, the most important thing is that your family is safe, and thank goodness you have full insurance, but I am totally gutted to think they are gone. My best to you and your family during this difficult time.

So glad no one was hurt but still quite awful news. The insurance will help no doubt, but a lot of that will be difficult, if not impossible, to replace.

Wow Steve, so sorry to hear this. Thank goodness your son got out and the rest of your family is ok.

OMG, Stephen. I know how much your drums meant to you, & have watched you build your collection over several years. So tragic. You're still our George Way King. Stay strong.......marko

Wow, Steve. Wasn't it you, who about 6 years ago your was living in a fire prone area with wildfires closing in? Anyway....must be a emotionally draining experience. Glad everyone is OK but it hurts me to think about your gorgeous GW collection being damaged. Did the authorities find the reason the fire started? Dust in the heater system or electrical short?

Ouch! +1 on what others have said. Good on Mr. D. The times I have thought what if? Fire or theft. In April of 2015 I did have a breakin at my house and the thief took only jewelry, money, electronic stuff and of course the cable/wiring harness to my Tivoli kit. What a nightmare with my insurance company trying to explain how that loss affected the value of my kit. In the end it all turns out OK. Drums can be replaced (most anyway) not family.

So sorry Stephen. I’m glad you and your family is OK.

Steve
As others have said, I'm glad all the family is safe and sound. Having lived through a fire as a teenager, it's a nasty thing and a constant worry, even to this day.
Take care brother!

First Hal Blaine and now this sad story. But as everyone has said your family is safe.thats what really matters. Also great that you had them insured.that has to help a little tiny bit.

I can't click "like" on this thread since it makes me sad.

Perhaps , take your family to England/Europe,to have a little fun , and start rebuilding your collection.
There's a lot of cool drums in Europe cheap.

I'm so very sorry to read this. But as Tmcfour said, drums are just stuff. You can rebuild a house and a drum collection, but loved ones are irreplaceable.

This is the type of posting that just hits you like a punch to the gut.......devastating! Glad the family is safe. Hang in there Stephen, things will eventually get better. :-(

I echo everyone’s sentiment. I’m sorry about your loss and I know you’re heartbroken about the drums. But so happy that everyone is ok. And that’s super generous and thoughtful of Ronn. Kudos to him.

Wow , speechless , unbelievably sad.
Glad living family is safe, but to me the drums are part of your family, sorry for the loss.
Been there with a flood years ago, and was sick for days. Didn't have appropriate insurance thou. I hope everything works out for you.
Always had great admiration for your knowledge and helped me with many questions on my Camco kits.

Thank God everyone is ok, you were blessed.

A real shame about the drums, but the damage to your house is what has me concerned. Can the house be repaired?

From the outside you can’t tell we had a fire except for the 3 new skylights the fire fighters punched in the roof. Because you can’t get that smoke out they are going to gut the entire house down to the studs and subfloor. They will then spray the studs, joists and subfloor with some product that keeps the burnt smell from permeating the house once the remodel is done.

So the one bright spot is that 10 months to a year from now I will be sitting in a brand new house.
