Are these good Yamaha concert toms?

Pretty much anything Yamaha makes is good and or great. Just depends on how much you need/want it!

Those are their actual concert toms (as in, used in a symphony / concert band). We had a set at my high school. Top quality instruments.

$2500+ for a new set of 6 through 16.

Well I got them. Some of them seem to be beech and some mahogany. At least the inner plies.

Lugs look to be Tour Custom style. In any case they appear to be 1980's Tour Series shells. Tour Customs if lacquered.....Tour Series if wrapped.
Birch/Mahogany shells. Those small sizes of 6,8,10 are worth bucks and in demand. Concert toms like these never went out of style.
The stands are 1990's are later. If there are serials/letters on the badge decals....you can date 'em.

The 6,8,10 are easy sellers and easy to ship. The last 6,8,10 or 6,8,10,12 Yamaha 900 set I saw sell was in the $600-$800 range. The Tama Superstar concert toms of that period sell for about the same amount.
The 6 is the rare one. 8's tough. 10's scarce but available. I've been looking for a 6,8,10 set for my '84 Superstars and they rarely come up....except in kits. Last couple of sets of CW 6,8,10,12 went for $900+.

When those sets of little toms get offered......you will likely be asked to part out the 6 by numerous people who need just that one (they have the others already).
So unless you get moon money for it.....resist the temptation. On Reverb I tried to do that on someone's set of 6,8,10,12....they were asking around 800 for maple finish Superstars.
They would not even consider breaking out the 6. Well 2 weeks later I see the same set up for sale but without the 6 and at $550. Which tells me the guy sold the 6 for $250 or less and
got snookered imo.......which is less than what I would have paid for it. Just goes to show........

As a pricing note, last year I was able to pick up a 6" white Yamaha 900 series 1980 concert tom from Maxwell's of all places....at $135. I'd never seen one in 3 yrs of looking. I'd have paid a lot more .
The Yamaha's don't bring quite as much as the Tama's (normally) because they made so few concert tom kits. Tama, Ludwig, Slingerland, and Pearl made the bulk of them. So there aren't than many
Yamaha CT followers like there is for Tama. And the Yammy concert toms in the 800/900 series are the rarest of all those makers too.

What are the numbers?

They didn’t used beech in the 80’s as those lugs looks like the 8000 Tour Custom ones from the 80’s and those used Birch/Mahogany.

The purple label hardware (was introduced in the 90’s, and so were those tom holders.


The double tom holders are from the 80’s too.

Insanely cool , I’d build a set around them …
