I double beg you NOT to remove it because it's only original once especially since you don't plan on keeping it... but if so, I agree it should be removed by a professional.

Not a DIY project.
But, wasn't it originally Citrus Mod before it was re-wrapped?

Indeed it was Mike, or at least the shells were. I don't have any real proof but I am willing to bet the shells were made up in advance with the wrap and when Ludwig realized they were going to sit on these shells that were essentially a dud they got the bright idea in mid 1970 to cover over these shells with black panther since black panther is a pretty think wrap that would not add much extra thickness to the already wrapped shells.

Around 7 or so years ago, I acquired a 12" x 15" 3 ply Black Panther tom that had solid white under the wrap. I sold it on ebay to the drummer of Quiet Riot.

Speedy, did you unwrap the BP?
No, you could see (at the seam) that it was the solid white cortex. No idea what the buyer did with it.

what sizes are these?? I see they're unwrapped, are they standard 22/12/13/16?

I was in the market for a black panther kit and had $10k for budget...oh well looks like you "ruined" these :)

Kidding.... I think you made the right choice. I had a BP kit from 71 with no CM under neath, they were probably the best sounding drums I've had...really wish I hadn't sold them. Jerry re-wrapped a BP kit in original bowling ball blue oyster that I wish I had bought. He said the BP shells were some of Ludwig's best at the time because the wrap was so thin the shells had to be near perfect.

Nice find and the re-sale will be more after the restoration I believe.
