I have a few cymbals I want to sell but I can't decide where to sell them. Some people just say facebook marketplace and some people tell me just to take them to guitar center so I don't have to deal with the crazies on fb marketplace. I've never sold to guitar center, do they suck?

GC buys gear on 40% margin. Check their prices, figure what 60% is and that's what you get. I've only sold one thing to GC because I actually got what I had paid for it some years ago and I was OK with that.

Have you considered Reverb?

I've had nothing but great experiences on FB Marketplace -- even made some new friends. No fees, local only, cash only (if you prefer). No crazies. It's pretty easy to sort out the inevitable scammers. Sure, like with anything, you get the tire-kickers, but it's nothing to get upset over.
Or... you could just take the hit and sell to GC, or better yet, your local drum-shop, if you have one.

Maybe I'm just one of the fortunate ones, but I've had great luck with my local CL. You can pretty easily sift through the scammers and tire kickers based on the content of their response. Our local police station has a an area that is specifically designated for transactions of this type, so no one has to come to your house.

good luck selling used cymbals... seriously depressed market right now.

Here is one on REVERB... really nice AA Sabian 20 ride. (see pic below)

$70!!

I just bought a nice 18" older Zildjian A ride from Guitar Center online, $75

I had a Sabian pre-aa vintage jazz ride, great shape, posted it on REVERB and my local CRAIGLIST at just under $100, absolutely no interest. Wound up selling it to the local music store for $60... OUCH!!

Here is the one on REVERB mentioned above (it is not mine!)...

I'd test the waters with what everyone has said here. In the past 3 months, I've sold things on Drum Forum, Reverb, and a drum store in my area. For me, I've had accept the fact that I likely won't get what I want for something by at least a few $10s but sometimes $100+. After I get past that hump of lower sale prices and fees/shipping depending on avenue of sale, I'm happy to find a quick sale as it means I don't have to try selling it for additional weeks and months.

I also recommend calling/emailing shops in your area or beyond to see if they'd do a consignment. You'd get a better payout that way vs selling outright to them. I currently have a couple things on consignment at a store--the drawback is I have to wait until the store sells them until I get paid.

I've been pretty active buying and selling over the last couple of years, and have to say my favorite way to sell is on DFO, just because it's easy and I know the gear is going to folks in a community I like.

But I've found the most effective way to sell is on Reverb, and it's where I've sold the most stuff. I always put stuff up for sale simultaneously on Reverb and DFO, and even with a significant discount on DFO, the stuff almost always sells faster on Reverb.

Careful with scam buyers if you do Facebook Marketplace. I pulled some items after being contacted literally minutes after posting. People having a numeric code sent to me and then bombarding me aggressively to tell them what the code number is. I don't have the patience to filter out scammers.

I agree about Reverb. Last Saturday, I sold a guitar in 2 hours on Reverb after all the local shops near me had no interest in it.

Same. I've sold a couple things on it and both times it's about 50/50 ok people to people being creepy.

I didn't realize how that came across. I haven't heard of reverb. I don't play or really know much about drums or anything. When my friend died I got his set. I dont really want the cymbals, just the part that means something to me.
No problem at all

I have better luck with Facebook these days than anything else. In fact, Marketplace is the only reason I still have a FB account.

What part of Texas are you in, if you don't mind my asking?

I haven't had too much trouble selling lately. On Reverb the thing I notice a lot are the shipping charges that are a little too high for the sake of the "deal" -- $70 is great for the cymbal but then it's $105 shipped and tax on top of that. Now it's not a great deal anymore.

I'm in Pennsylvania, and I can ship a 20" cymbal on the east coast for $15-20, but I can't set shipping that low on Reverb because it might come back to bite me if the buyer is from California. I try to sell here with lower cost overall and include shipping when I can, or I state "actual shipping" so people know I'm not going to overcharge.

Guitar Center will literally give you $2 per inch! So if you sell them a 20" ride, they will give you $40 with a straight face. Try to avoid selling to them at all costs. I do buy (mostly used) from them, though.

FB - I don't have it. It's TEMPTING to get though, since I hear about crazy deals all the time.
C-List - hit and miss. Things tend to sit and/or you get low ball offers, but I like to buy on it.
Reverb - I like them but getting paid is a PITA. Both buying and selling.
Ebay - I like them but they charge a crazy amount of fees. Both buying and selling.
